1. Indeed, among brothers there are many who are evil,
And brothers who greet you, "God keep you well!"

2. And brothers who ask, "How is it going? And the family, all well?"
Yet that is not worth a tiny fly.

3. A generous man, when you become self-sufficient and need not his money,
Says "Lend me some! Lend me!" though you owe him naught.

4. But if you seek the one who turned his back,
You'll find the rich man in estrangement nearer.
