1. I remember when in Egypt we were of repute
And days in history that were momentous

2. When the meadows of youth were graceful and neat
And times of clarity that flowed smooth

3. When we raced the steeds of amusement therein
With plenty in its fields and abundance

4. And when we indulged our youth and cared not
Whether its consequences be sweet or bitter

5. When tribulations would befall, we'd avoid them
With nothing but manners and poverty as our weapons

6. When assailed, my poetry would respond
And if I descended on you, prose would retort

7. An era that accompanied us has relapsed
On its heels, leaving behind remembrance

8. The memory of youth rights no wrongs
But in it there is solace and patience

9. Greetings O Egypt from God and hi
To your meadows, may the winds pour rain

10. We stayed in you seventeen years
That sped by as if they were but a month in beauty
