1. The goblet gleams, so bring it here, cupbearer,
Relating the radiance of sunrise at daybreak.

2. My hands reach for it briskly and eagerly
As the act of a captive who gains his freedom.

3. The mouths have scarcely concealed their brilliance
Before their teeth shine forth in smiles.

4. How weak is the strongest wine we see,
A creation that shows the power of the Creator!

5. Take what you wish of our souls and bodies
Except for dignity and noble deeds.

6. I drink it remembering him
Who revived the land with his copious generosity.

7. Not I alone am captive to his love; rather I see
All the noble ones his passionate lovers.

8. Lebanon appreciates him, Egypt esteems him,
And Syria awaits the return of the ardent lover.

9. They claimed he had found favor and intimacy
In governance, which he seeks through courtesy and discretion.

10. As for that, by the truth of the word of a truthful one, Kaashif,
I am clothed in the meanness and hypocrisy I have woven.

11. This is talk whose echo lingers from the days of youth,
Penned by pens in pages.

12. The years have not changed it; rather they
Have increased it with more ardent longing.

13. So it is as if he and sustenance were a gift of his Lord,
And providing livelihoods was entrusted to him.

14. O house of the noble one, blessed with the water of life,
And protected from the glance of the Disposer!

15. The wedding in your club glistens, brilliant,
An exemplar of the shining star.

16. A wedding whose light stretches across Alexandria,
Its rays extending into the horizons.

17. O son of the noble one, he who calls you
Calls one generous and purebred.

18. Congratulations on your wedding, and delight in a bride
Who is foremost in beauty and refinement of taste.

19. Whatever manners and morals you wish.
And follow his exemplary ways, that you may be like him,

20. An enduring honor throughout the nights.
Or, among men, a son and father superior,

21. And husband kindest and most chivalrous.
