1. Praise has no elegance without you,
No matter how eloquent a poet embellishes and refines.

2. And if poetry amasses in spreading virtue
Among people, spreading your grace is more fitting.

3. The one who created all beauty
Granted you an attire from it that cannot be imitated.

4. Nobility, gentleness, refinement,
And charm surround a caring heart.

5. O day the market bustled in wonder, when
They saw a woman who came shopping,

6. They recognized her as the General’s wife, so they were amazed
By that grandeur and tenderness gazing at them.

7. They stood confused and silent, each
Observing thoughtfully what he saw.

8. The General’s wife striving just as
Working women strive and sweat.

9. They did not believe their ears in the past,
Until they saw with their eyes and made sure

10. You gave them a useful example, though
Maxims are preserved by the prudent sage.

11. Then you walked away with every eye looking
Lovingly at you and every heart throbbing,

12. And they left with each tongue saying,
“He who has one like you is truly fortunate.”
