1. O God's mercy do not stray
From the shade of a grave wherein he stayed

2. My generosity upon tenderness and giving
Has lain down with him in peace

3. And let my eyes weep for my desire
Do not begrudge my tears

4. I cry for the sincere affectionate one
For the refined scholar laid to rest

5. And O soil that contained Murad
Pride and wanderer of the land

6. You contained the wisest soul
Though he died he remains alive

7. He is Al-Assami among the men
He attained what he attained with effort

8. Sharper in resolution than blades
With softness of manner and heart

9. How many nights with spark in the flint
A poor called him in its depths

10. And from his generous hand attained
And from his great heart attained

11. And how many people lowly and unseen
Whom asking humility pained

12. Yet his right hand gave them refuge
Unaware what the left hand does

13. He lived what he lived, never deceitful
Never boastful or cruel

14. Nor was anger his nature
Rather he was gentle as a girl

15. So let him whose goal is heaven
Seek it thus, thus heaven sought

16. Let whoever wishes model on him
Best of creation is to model on the best
