1. O Giver of the fleeting mirage
And the dark night and the white dawn

2. O Exalter from the pride of the house
Of Muhammad, highest in rank

3. O Possessor of the soft highness
And confounder of others’ loftiness

4. O Light of whose perfection
Filled the horizons and the setting places

5. O Whose praise and thanks
Are ever obligatory upon me

6. O My sword which I sacrifice
To ward off strokes of adversity

7. O My aide in times of distress
When I have no friend or companion

8. I complain to You of the tyranny of fate
That does not reproach the reproacher

9. That distracts the hearts of lovers
From their beloved and darlings

10. Its arrows continually wound me
From every side they pierce and jab

11. It does not cease recording for me
Pages of calamities from its notebook

12. And I have taken refuge in You
Above non-Arabs and Arabs alike

13. And I trusted in You, for glories
Abundant, and merits sublime

14. And I hoped for the most generous Master
Whose seeker is never disappointed

15. And to Your sanctuary I sent it
Mocking the planets, impertinent

16. It is like what Bahā’ said
Telling its beads in confusion

17. And it imagines in its pages
Melted gold upon the papers

18. I reminded without delaying
A promise, and no blamer blamed

19. But I feared that I
Was absent from Your blessed thoughts

20. You remain protected from the dark times
Preserved from all aspects
