1. Neither meadows are fragrant with flowers,
Nor branches are adorned with fruits.

2. The air is darker, the space is decorated,
The shade is warmer, the breeze is ambergris scented.

3. The cup is ornamented in the hand of the lad,
The necklace is bejeweled around the neck of the lass.

4. Does and wild cows are companions on the cheeks,
The full moon rises from the horizon of darkness.

5. The plaits are curly, the lips are alluring,
The eyelids are languorous, the glances are broken.

6. The statures are slender, the teeth are aligned,
The waists are fragile, the scarves are short.

7. A day that inspired hearts of those who apprehended,
Beauty that allured souls of those who realized.

8. Of good traits and tender words to my ears,
Until I got drunk without drinking liquor.

9. The cup of bliss circulated towards me,
Sweeter to me than long years.

10. I have deposited them in masterpieces,
Scattered across the garden of splendor.

11. For an elite generation of the best of manhood,
Whose superior merits cannot be confined.

12. He who extolled the praise of the honorable,
We deemed sequins grow gems.

13. And narrated their tales, so it was guarded
By Suhban, Wael, and fingers holding the pulpits.

14. A people, when the pen inaugurated depicting them,
Saffron in the gardens nearly bloomed and flowered.

15. They are the honorable and noble ones, and those related to them,
Were the lofty lands of knowledge.

16. If time made them perish, they have long been,
To it a precious self and dearer.

17. Or enduring traces and true facts,
Their way is to be acclaimed and mentioned.

18. It watered the good family from the river of bliss,
Clouds pouring down perfume in the early dawn.

19. And the clearly interpreted full moon institutes – oh how
Sublime is its position and clearly interpreted!

20. You see the pillar of religion and his cousin –
That secretive one - how much he benefited and composed!

21. And the pride of Nablus that straightened the tumors,
And drew from the abundance of mastery a sea.

22. And the high family of Al Minqar like a sun belonging to them,
A landmark of knowledge, intimate to the noble hills.

23. And you see the hadith scholar Ibn Dawood who cultivated
The ways of guidance until he surpassed and led.

24. And the meadows of Al Ahdeb nourished by clouds
Of tender downpour, turning the garden green.

25. And it watered, after them, an elite generation
With every ink the breeze carried when it blew.

26. They prospered and founded for sciences strongholds,
With tied firmly bonds.

27. Days when living was most comfortable and plentiful,
And luck ripened the vines, fruitful,

28. As they were, and merit was an exclusive privilege
To the highborn unlike the rest - undeserved.

29. And they became - across the horizons - from their loftiness
A scent making one fancy musk when sniffing ambergris.

30. It saluted Damascus, so fine was its breeze,
Inclining by nature to generosity, influencing.

31. A land prosperous of ripe fruits from its branches,
Beautifying the banks of Barada river.

32. And it watered Rayyan’s gardens - how much
Bliss we drew from it, more copious.

33. We get up to foster harmony amongst us,
A branch reddening with clarity and fruitful.

34. And solace the birds lamenting their passion,
As if amongst the meadows some are flowering.

35. The friendly nightingale spreading its affection,
And slaying with glances from the eyelids an infatuated.

36. The pleasant breeze messing her bangs,
You see the dew scattered here and there.

37. And its steady pigeons cooing melodiously,
“Pass the bottle, for the breeze blew perfect.”

38. “Please O southern winds join
Those branches and shake their scarfs.”

39. “Seduce the rods of the arbors and flirt
With the garden’s flowers, a watering place making amends.”

40. “Seduce the eyelid of the delighted jasmine
And sip from the mouth of buds partly open.”

41. “Scrutinize the dwellings of plateaus and wander around,
Those institutes with greetings scented.”

42. For how many tender nights and beloved ones
I spent therein and gathered friends.

43. Its passionate songs the cops voiced whenever
In my heart their memory was evoked.
