1. The tender carnation with its petals gleams,
Its sweet fragrance has perfumed the dawn.
١. وقرنفل غضّ المكاسر ناصعٌ
غصّت بطيب عبيره الأسْحَارُ
2. It appeared in a market whose leaves were moist with dew,
Eyes were affixed to it in awe.
٢. وافَى على سوق بَدَتْ أوراقها
تَنْدى وقد عَلِقَتْ بها الأبصار
3. It seemed as though the birds had tongues within it,
Their tender tips like little chicks.
٣. فكأنما للطير فيها ألسنٌ
مذروبةٌ أطرافُهُنَّ صِغارُ
4. Towards its emerald necklace they reached,
Perplexing thoughts in describing it.
٤. شَدَّتْ إِلى عِقُدِ الزُمردّ بينها
قُصَبٌ تُحار بوصْفها الأفكارُ
5. As though it had meadows for the nightingale,
With pillars for it to build its nest.
٥. فكأنّها للعندليبِ أكارعٌ
بقرار أعمدها له منقار
6. Green kohl adorns it for wheat spikes,
Perfuming the earth a sweet scent.
٦. قَدْ توّجتها للقموع مَكاحِلٌ
خُضْرٌ مُشرّفةُ الذرى مِعْطارُ
7. In each one a flower captivates you,
As though it were made of sculpted silver.
٧. في كلّ واحدة تروقك زهرة
فَكأنّها من فضّة مسمَارُ
