1. O eye, a rose at dawn and in origin
I cry for the loss of a beloved who has departed from you

2. And O my heart, you crumbled after his death
For the sword of fate is faster than reproach

3. And O comfort, stay away from my mind forever
And O tears, flow like heavy rainfall

4. And O doves, wail with me and mourn him
And sing with sorrow and grief, not amusement

5. The beloved, the beloved of the soul has disappeared from lodgings
His separation made them the blackest of attire

6. Woe to the one who parted us, for the separation wounds us
With arrows from which we have not stopped writhing

7. Woe to the one who parted us, how he made our tears flow
With the painful betrayal and malice he brought

8. Woe to the one who parted us, how he throws hearts and yet
Does not miss, as if his hands were from the clan of Tha'labah

9. The beloved shot an arrow with which he was struck
And he fell motionless like a drunkard

10. My soul in sacrifice for that body which fate
Felled, which used to stand straight like a stalk

11. My soul in sacrifice for that face which adversity
Darkened, its beauty and charms

12. My soul in sacrifice for the one whose memory in my heart
And being before my eyes will never depart

13. O knight, today receive glad tidings, for soon there will come to you
A beloved, so do not complain of boredom

14. Two full moons have darkened the horizon after them
And my roads narrowed with grief

15. Time has muddied our clear watering hole
And fate changed what we were hoping for

16. We hoped joy from him but our joys turned
Into bereavement - may he who changed it be bereaved

17. O you who left and my heart left with you
Will there be, I wonder, any return for the departed?

18. Will there be a return of our blissful nights of old?
Do you think the nights of our intimacy will return?

19. If your heart is busy with joys
Then my heart is busy with worries

20. Or were you sleeping the eternal sleep while I
Toss unable to sleep

21. May God not extinguish a fire burning in me
Nor dry my weeping eyes

22. May I know no comfort in life
Until I meet you at my destined time

23. What nobility, beauty, knowledge and deed
Were enveloped by that grave!

24. And what springs of subtle kindness flowed from him
And what good manners without affectation

25. And O waterer of that grave with mercy
Bestowed by the One Eternal God

26. May the flowers above it blossom
With cloudbursts of pouring rain
