1. Will the one who left us return?
Alas, it is a distant hope.

2. The living depart for a time, but
The dead's departure has no limit.

3. The full moon left our land,
And the nights turned pitch black.

4. Noble in origin, from the nobles of time,
His lineage attested, its narrators witnesses.

5. A meteor that illuminated the land,
Struck down suddenly amidst separation.

6. We wondered that a meteor settled on earth,
And how a meteor is obscured by tombs.

7. Marvel, O grave, that contains him!
And say: For the world, I am something new!

8. Gone is the one who attacked the enemies,
And fluttered around his procession the banners.

9. Where is the spear and the sword to protect him,
And the soldiers and the armies?

10. Oh traveler who traveled to Him,
After you, hearts do not return.

11. Eyes have shed for you copious tears,
As livers melted from your separation.

12. Unique you were in the wilderness,
And today you are in a singular grave.

13. You used to be generous with wealth for a lifetime,
And now with your splendid body you are generous.

14. The constellations wept sadly for your loss,
For even the firm rocks lament your absence.

15. When you were absent from Lebanon,
Its hills almost collapsed from profound agony.

16. For your people, a long wakefulness remains in their eyes
And a copious sea from their tears.

17. O branch of glory, you were unjustly broken -
A hand whose sinew in snapping you was severe.

18. If you are absent from a house it will crumble,
But in Paradise for you is eternity.

19. The Merciful watered a grave in which you rest,
With clouds of His mercy that pour forth generosity.

20. And the light of a date shines, calling out,
"Through God's kindness, fortunate and happy am I."
