1. Aws ibn 'Amir came to me in the twilight
Wanting to trick me away from her with the wiles of his smooth talk
١. أَتانيَ في الطَيفاءِ أَوسُ بنُ عامِرٍ
لَيَخدَعَني عَنها بِجِنِّ ضِراسِها
2. He bargained a little while, hopeless, unsuccessful
And brought a soul confident in its bargains
٢. فَسامَ قَليلاً يائِساً غَيرَ ناجِزٍ
وَأَحضَرَ نَفساً واثِقاً بِمكاسِها
3. I swore if you would give what you valued the like of
While you were so eager, you would not have gone to her head
٣. فَأَقسَمتُ لَو أَعطيتَ ما سُمتَ مِثلَهُ
وَأَنتَ حَريصٌ ما غَدوتَ بِراسِها
4. Did her veils' fragrance delude you away from her company?
The mother of dwellings is disgusted during her menses
٤. أَغَرَّكَ مِنها عَذمُها عَن حوارِها
تَقَذُّرَ أُمِّ السَكنِ عِندَ نِفاسِها
5. So he turned away, no longer hopeful, though his soul still coveted,
Echoing endlessly in despair
٥. فَوَلّى وَلَم يَطمَع وَفي النَفسِ حاجَةٌ
يُرَدِّدُها مَردودَةً بِإِياسِها
