1. God is Greatest, thus
Islam was commanded before

2. But we were ignorant and falsely claimed
Asceticism so danger intensified

3. This religion did not prevail
Except through the impoverished Muhammed

4. Not through determination and peril
Or talismans and sparkles

5. Or drums beaten at dusk and dawn
Or soothsaying, knowledge, laziness and sloth

6. Nay, these are testimonies without experience
Who will show us that with wakefulness comes rain

7. If there is no lightning or thunder in a cloud of sparks
In the essence of history lies witness to our words, O listeners

8. Why did the Prophet through his companions
Wage wars and not flee

9. And not ride the back of pride, and in battle wield the sword
Why ready the little army and provision it with some dates

10. Did he bring them a triangle or square
Or did he practice magic

11. Did he stand before them foretelling until drunk
Nay, by God, but with horses and piety he commanded

12. Observe the Sultan in an impregnable fortress, unwary
And if he is negligent, libertine, or sycophantic and hiding

13. And treason appears on his brow
He loses his position and falls

14. Truly in history are signs that speak with wisdom
