1. Hamdan of overflowing generosity and peace
Is the son of Qays, exalted and sublime

2. So I say spontaneously, displaying his perfection:
He is the ocean of knowledge, none can match his rank

3. Of gentle, lucid eloquence is his speech
Of noble, lofty morals his manners and trait

4. And how not, when Abdul Qadir is his mentor
Honouring his student, a fountainhead of wisdom

5. Ahmad, you have mastered the sciences and excelled
In praise of you, verses of glory for mankind

6. You preceded and obtained virtue, so remain honoured
And say, announcing: al-Baruni lives

7. And for the Islamic lion, blessed is he that
His pages bear, empowered by your proof

8. May God protect you, with your sincere thoughts
Yours is love in verse, though the critic blames

9. You are a brother, and people in faith are brethren
Does the creed of fairness forsake its fellows?

10. No, never! For harmony is incumbent
And none who sow discord deserve but deprivation

11. The days have taught us the ill of our divide
Through unity lies triumph, O eye of mankind

12. I travel and meet honoured men everywhere
Whose enlightened minds have Hamdan's fortune
