1. The breeze of forgetfulness delighted us
On the morn of Eid al-Adha, the great feast

2. After the imam had prayed
With a large congregation

3. So the brothers raced, each
Rider on the back of his steed

4. Raising beautiful, graceful shapes
As if they were a prince's carriage

5. And the horses frolicked, their manes
Flowing like silk

6. Steeds bred for racing that would surpass
Even an envoy's horses

7. Gliding over the land's expanse
With no trace or murmur

8. Poets would sing their praises
Were they Farazdaq or Jarir

9. Or the famous Eastern Imam
Al-Hudhrami of great repute

10. To the right, with ease and calm
You'd see Al-Ghadri

11. The air was clear, the doves
Cooing in the branches

12. Before us, a deep green sea
Betraying no ripple or stir

13. Flowers smiled, pastures
Swayed in the conscience's chill

14. On the meadow, green satin
Wove like finest silk

15. Until gold threads ran
Over luminous fabrics

16. The sun rose and set
On a perfect trajectory

17. As if it and the sea envied
Their tryst with a convent's beauty

18. Her face shone, her glances
Beckoned with promise

19. As if we, as if they, as if she
Were the source of all light

20. Two lovers embraced
Watched by disapproving eyes

21. Then the islands were adorned
With electricity's famed glow

22. From the east, the new moon's
Crescent brought peace

23. Our caravan halted, its journey done
Thanks to our leader's care

24. We bid farewell to Algeria
And so ended our passage
