1. These are our traces, so pray for us
And say: A man is known for his deeds

2. A man's worth lies in his virtues
Wisdom a caravan of parables has followed

3. Let the worker act likewise
Or withdraw to isolation

4. Do not boast of wealth or of
High status or eloquent speech

5. And consider what al-Wardi said
In his wise verses when he said: withdraw

6. To houses if God permits
Tomorrow you will call for reforming deeds

7. So ponder them, O brother of understanding, and rise
To the prayer rug at night like a hero

8. Obtain knowledge with manners that
Have far-famed repute in the world, leave tedium

9. And specialize, become refined, and ask
Your sheikh to clarify subtleties

10. Compose poetry, refine its diction
Serve thought and avoid laziness

11. And fear God, you will become a pillar, for
The fruit of knowledge is nothing but shunning flaws

12. Accept advice, leave sinful ways
Hold to truth, beware confusion
