4. Yet by God, since they left me,
My life has not tasted sweet, nor has time been kind.

If its embers appeared, none could bear its heat.

12. I answered them, โIf this be true, I choose
This humiliation to endure for all my years.โ

13. Humiliation for lovers is no dishonor;
Rather, it is the core of all honor for the passionate.

15. I incline toward a charming cheek on which
Anemones have slept, making it red.

16. The innocence of my eyelids forever pleases me
In the beauty of the face of a bewitching charmer.

17. Morn and eve I dwell among disheveled hair
And a shining faceโthat is how the beautiful are.

20. If my eyes matched its Nile in abundance,

21. Or if my heart narrated its seas of knowledgeโ

22. Its Azhar has shining suns that have risen

23. The fragrance of their knowledge has spread among all people,

24. Egypt embraced them, becoming thereby a garden,

25. They compared it to a bride, and its wedding

26. When they said its garden breathes sweet scent,
I replied: Its perfume is the beauty of its meanings.

27. An inkwell possessing whose mastery
The greatest of the age attested to openly.

28. If you said, โCan the like of him be found in Egypt?โ
I would answer, acknowledging this and professing it.

29. By my life, it has today eminent men
Adorned with beauty and benevolence.

30. O hidden one, its pride is yours!
To you belong its finest testaments.

31. If I swore Egypt is a paradise

32. The Nile is its pure river whose drink

33. It fully deserves to take pride,

34. It gained praiseworthy traits when named after Muhammad,
And ascended to the peak, over all peers.

35. Of any ideal, our Prince is its counterpartโ
An Alexander or Chosroes Anushirvan.

36. On his face victory over enemies is revealed.

37. In his grip are two swords: the sword of divine support,
And the valiant, Abrahamโs sword is the second.

38. Ask him, and the Hejaz will tell you firsthand

39. Before, its paths were frightened,
And now they are fully safe.

40. No wonder Najd keeps thanking him,

42. The vicissitudes of fate are proof

43. To the extent that they have tasted ample disgrace

44. The height of his spear does not miss its targets,
And to hit one's target is to attain one's wishes.

46. A hero whose magnificent traits
Have adorned the neck of Time with bejeweled crowns.

48. So pride yourself on his abundant wisdom and favor,
