إن امرأ وجد اليسار فلم يصب

1. A man found ease but rendered not thanks nor praise to the Unaided.
Effort draws near each far-off thing, each locked door opens to strive.

١. إِنَّ امْرَأً وَجَدَ الْيَسَارَ فَلَمْ يُصِبْ
حَمْدًا وَلَا شُكْرًا لَغَيْرُ مُوَفَّقِ

2. When you hear that a seeker of water came thirsty to a full pool yet its wristlet was tied, seek you into the matter.
Truest of right to sorrow is he whose high heart ever walks anxious and straitened in wealth.

٢. الْجَدُّ يُدْنِي كُلَّ أَمْرٍ شَاسِعٍ
وَالْجَدُّ يَفْتَحُ كُلَّ بَابٍ مُغْلَقِ

3. And of destiny's proofs is the comfort of fools and discomfort of wise and polite.

٣. وَإِذَا سَمِعْتَ بِأَنَّ مَكْدُودًا أَتَى
مَاءً لِيَشْرَبَهُ فَغَاضَ فَحَقِّقِ

٤. وَأَحَقُّ خَلْقِ اللهِ بِالْهَمِّ امْرُؤٌ
ذُو هِمَّةٍ يُبْلَى بِعَيْشٍ ضَيِّقِ

٥. وَمِنَ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى الْقَضَاءِ وَكَوْنِهِ
بُؤْسُ اللَّبِيبِ وَطِيبُ عَيْشِ الْأَحْمَقِ
