1. The journey called for establishing longing
So the places of rain may appear settled

2. And for the sighs after the flock, a preventer
With which the small birds and beasts are roused

3. Samiri, is the talk of the caravan but
A northerly wind perfumed or inclinations

4. So here I am cleft by its difference in meadows
And here I am leaning from conversing with it

5. May you be ransomed by heroes whose chests
Are impenetrable hunters with endless sorrow

6. Other than fantasy we have no meeting
Other than the breeze we have no messenger

7. I ask the breaths of the loving about you
So the ailing wind tells me about you

8. And had it not been for my love being
I would accept what brings me nearer

9. My intimate remember me as an ailing man
A self that pains itself a self that pains

10. When the reddish are mentioned and their dwellers
It weeps in rapture and the cooings delight it

11. On a night I ferried from it the difficult seas
Ferocious with no way to its coast

12. When darkness confines me therein
From passionate yearning I have a guide

13. I tapped the beauties with it after languor
In my palm a polished sword

14. It startled them with a flash from my sword
And awoke them with a neigh from my stallion

15. They say in hushed tones where did you go
While between us is an impassable pitfall

16. And before the domes of our fair lady a band
Of knights followed by a band

Its horses extend to it their disheveled manes

There the spark and determination flames

Of resolving lodging or livelihood

And the easiest of matters is what is prolonged

21. It suffices me as help that misfortunes contested me
Whose state is forever changing

22. I did not give my reins to enemies
And I guarantee wars against them

23. This life will be between me
And its misfortunes prolonged chiding

24. That time, I am not wasteful with them except
A generous brother to his ancient hospitality

25. And a saying to how do the tribulations
Make you stumble without rest

26. So I said, ‘Let time decline my west
Flaws are no disgrace to one defeated

27. Of what nights I have suffered
My solace is melancholy persisting with me

28. Its cycles elevate every despicable one
And debase whoever has lasting glory

29. As lions descended the still plains
And howled amongst its towering peaks

30. Whoever tomorrow caresses gently
And whoever today treats nobly

31. The life of the cultured is not good
When minds are separated into ignorance

32. I attained beauty in a time
Ugly to its people of taste

33. The drink of expectations in it a mirage
And the place of dew a barren dream

34. The flags of affection extinguished
No living happily and no intimate

35. And which brother of true brotherhood does not change
And which ally of covenant does not betray

36. My praise of my time’s governors is little
For their merit with them is meager

37. I meant by describing them blame
So what I say is safe from excess
