1. How many a valley and standard there is below your land,
As though its heights were woven with the stars!
١. كم دون أرضك من وادٍ ومن علمٍ
كأن أعلاه بالأفلاك منتسج
2. And meadows like the surface of a round shield darkened,
As though its pebbles beneath the dew were crisped.
٢. ومن مروجٍ كظهر الترس مظلمةٍ
كأن حصباءها تحت الدجى سبج
3. Until when the sun shines on its morning shadows,
I deemed its standards amid the family were astir.
٣. حتى إذا الشمس لاحت في سباسبها
حسبت أعلامها في الآل تختلج
4. And many a barren plain whose farther end
For the Jinn at night within its regions there is ample space.
٤. وكم فلاةٍ يفوت الطرف آخرها
للجن بالليل في أقطارها وهج
5. A dusty brown plain nor knows the guide about it -
In which of its slopes for him is the release.
٥. يهماء غبراء لا يدري الدليل بها
في أي أرجائها له الفرج
6. I crossed it for a son of noble lineage compressed of bounty,
Firm of characteristics in his self-possession bowed.
٦. قطعتها بابن حرفٍ ضامر قطمٍ
صلب المناسم في أرقاله هوج
7. Yearning for you, and were it not for what I endure
For me in God's land there would have been a relief.
٧. شوقاً إليك ولولا ما أكابده
لكن لي في بلاد اللَه منفرج
8. If you find me worthy of that, while if
You refuse me, no blame and no disgrace.
٨. فإن تجد لي فمحقوق بذاك وإن
تبخل علي فلا لوم ولا حرج
