1. Your oath divides time in two for me -
Half for what you did in the past, and half waiting expectantly,

2. If my soul is convinced you are not to blame,
I have misgivings and compassion - do not doubt it.

3. By Him who, if He wished, could make one man defeat another,
I have a trusting, reverent heart.

4. I doubted, so I do not know - because I care for you so much -
Whether you are innocent or if my suspicions make you seem guilty.

5. If my intention towards you was to attain companionship,
You would have been the most gracious and fruitful companion for me.

6. If I drew closer, I would lessen the reproach and not increase
Saying anything but praise for you.

7. But suspicions made me refuse to stay with you
In a state I do not wish for myself.
