1. You abandon those you love though you are their neighbor,
And you seek them though their tombs are far away.

2. You yearn for them though long has been their passing,
And ask of their homes “Where did they go?”

3. You ceased to ask after them though all were present,
Hoping the abodes would tell you where they fared.

4. You are like a tracker with defective vision,
Your heart distraught like one intoxicated.

5. You did not curb your steed nor take heed of caution,
And died agonized, having ignored the warning.

6. You heard of their departure yet remained alive,
How can you find comfort in the dwellings?

7. When the period of youth escapes its defender
And falls into the jaws of a tyrannical elder.

8. You distance yourself from your love though you are close,
Do not weary yourself, you have no excuse.

9. If one you desire turns away,
Passion has shamed you, and patience is disgrace.
