1. To Allah I complain of the cruelty of my beloved
For when she took possession of my heart, she dealt with it stingily

2. I will restrain my soul from reproaching her, being content
Until I see her become angry after her act

3. And I will beg her pardon as long as she is stingy
And I will silence my tongue from returning to blame her

4. For many a time I have wished that I was mute
And had not addressed her with the like of this speech
