The oath of a man who fulfilled it without sin

3. What a difference between the two Yazids regarding glory
Yazid ibn Suleim and the most honourable Ibn Hatim

4. Yazid ibn Suleim spared wealth and men
While the brother of Azd was unforgiving to wealth

5. The concern of the Azdi man was ruining his wealth
While the concern of the Qaysi man was gathering dirhams

6. Let not Atmatam think I maligned him
Rather I preferred the people of virtues

7. O you who strive but cannot attain
With your efforts the vast, crashing seas

8. I strove but could not attain the feats of Ibn Hatim
In freeing captives and bearing calamities

9. The building of noble deeds suffices, Ibn Hatim
While the Azdi remains asleep to them

10. O son of a master, do not criticize Ibn Hatim
Lest you bang your head if you do against regret

11. He is a sea - if you venture to cross it
You will perish in its raging billows

12. You wished for glory in the foolishness of Suleim
Wishes of a dreamer or wishes of a madman

13. Beware the Banu Muhalab are but fools
And in war they bring you disastrous defeats

14. They are the nose while the people are behind them
Dividers while the proboscis is above the dividers

15. I have judged for you, O Banu Muhalab, exaltation
And your preference is a right upon every dreamer

16. You have a nobility no other people possess
Magnanimity and true courage in battles

17. Degraders of wealth when it comes to you
Provisions you defend from every aggressor

18. O Abu Khalid you whose name is praised
Whenever people face a great calamity

19. You suffice the Abbasids against every hardship
And were the best protector of Islam
