1. Prince of Poetry, no light and truth
But evil reversal and tear

2. If you support them, you support right
My father, your support is honor and ethics

3. Prince of Poetry, revolutions rise
On systems paved by truth

4. Not on blood of orphans
For blood of orphans is not right

5. They permitted shedding the Christians’ blood
While their eyelids contain hatred and knock

6. They did not treat young orphans kindly
So they wronged them with what they did not deserve

7. They said nations rising requires
Destroying their countries and splitting

8. And the value of religion boils in ignorants
And the drumbeat of religion was not heard

9. Do you respect rights while in its expanse
There is a twister and lightning of grudges

10. And longing of orphans in its flags
Flapping in every second

11. Isn’t independence nurtured by solidarity
And withered by conflict and cracked?

12. With true love, it builds an edifice
Its everlasting foundation is honor and truth

13. Aren’t we first in unanimity in worries?
Why don’t we unite today in concord?

14. No people worked towards separation
A homeland and language united between them

15. They returned the evil of the past with wagging
And their love had no pulse or vein

16. As if they wanted to deny harmony
With ignorance that disgraces homelands

17. We both lament injustice
A country seized by tyrannies

18. We support revolutions but
We fault them if improper

19. Prince of Poetry, it’s enough Damascus grieves
Its orchards are dry and knocked

20. Its flowers are yellow jasmines
Its rivers are terrors and trials

21. Nothing in Ghoutas except a moan
Raised from pain in depth

22. Nothing in Umayyad Mosque except
Screams from its agony and sighs

23. As if jinn prowled its darkness
And for owls, hooting in its sides

24. Eyelids of minarets weeping in it
Its tears are complaints and passion

25. Where are ruins from palaces
Superior in world’s ways

26. Where is glory of delicate style
Fallen miserably, and no refinement left in Damascus

27. Where are its ancient institutes
Where are the fine art and precision?

28. Majestic, they were visited shrines
Crowds of pilgrims, ethics after ethics

29. Eras cleansed, rogues assaulted them
Folly squads of defilement and stupidity

30. Upon whom is blame of sins placed?
Each passion claims “I’m most right”!

31. It rebuked their refusal so it bitterly passed
And Damascus roared from their meanness

32. Had they been wise, a system would free them
Knocking on door of their right

33. You made poetry a ladder for reform
Did you refine their manners to split?

34. Did you teach them to throw rhymes
To throw the orphan without kindness?

35. Ask the pyramids, son of glory, about us
Tears and restless soul will answer you

36. In pyramids, Shawkī, are remains
Of the rooted lineage, never ending

37. In the glittering Nile, emotions
Part of which reached Lebanon sustenance

38. It's hard for him that a country suffers
With ancestral virtues and freedom

39. Don't you see Umayya longing
To Lebanon from a restless inclination?

40. Both crave in a taking
With tears of terrors and burning

41. For the coming future, confused clamor
At its feet, death of homelands

42. Prince of Poetry, it’s poetry’s pride
That you have talent for inspiration

43. I'm listening to magic drops
With eloquent flow from your poetry

44. Refine Eastern youth's manners, refine!
So a homeland rises and they rise

45. Tell them you're their brother, support them
To attain the sublime goal and remain
