1. When Shawwal departs, we incline
Toward empty bottles and inscriptions.
١. إذا ما شال شَوَّالٌ عكفنا
على زقِّ وباطية رزومِ
2. And if worries circle round us, we fend them off
With cups in hand, deaf to their murmurs.
٢. وإن همٌ أطافَ بنا عركنا
بأيدي الكأس آذان الهمومِ
