1. By your life! My hands have never intentionally done wrong
Nor have my feet led me to shameful acts
١. لَعَمرُكَ ما أَهوَيتُ كَفّي لِرِيبَةٍ
وَلا حَمَلَتني نَحوَ فاحِشَةٍ رِجلي
2. Neither has my hearing nor sight led me that way
Nor has my reason or sense guided me there
٢. وَلا قادَني سَمعي وَلا بَصَري لَها
وَلا دَلَّني رَأيي عَلَيها وَلا عَقلي
3. Indeed, no calamity has befallen me
That has not already afflicted someone before me
٣. وَإِنّيَ حَقا لم تُصِبني مُصيبَةٌ
مِنَ الدَهرِ إِلّا قَد أَصابَت فَتىً قَبلي
4. As long as I live, I shall not walk to forbidden things
That one like me does not walk to the like of them
٤. وَلَستُ بِماشٍ ما حَيِيت لِمُنكَرٍ
مِنَ الأَمرِ لا يَمشي إِلى مِثلِهِ مِثلي
5. Nor do I put myself before my next of kin
I prefer my guest while he stays with my family
٥. وَلا مُؤَثِراً نَفسي عَلى ذي قرابَةٍ
وَأَوثِرُ ضَيفي ما أَقامَ عَلى أَهلي
