١. لا تُنْكري شعثي ولو حُسِبَتْ
تلكَ البُرودُ هَوابيَ الرَّمْسِ
2. For fate has veiled its rise
With the kings' stinginess and pride
٢. فالحظُّ قد غَطَّى مَطالِعَهُ
بُخْلُ الملوكِ وعِزَّةُ النَّفْسِ
3. And yesterday I complained of tomorrow
Yet tomorrow came, so I thanked yesterday
٣. ولقد شكوْتُ الأمس قبل غَدٍ
وأتى غَدٌ فشكرْتُ للأمسِ
