يكاد الدجى يغدو صباحا مشرقا

1. The dusk almost becomes a bright morning
When Antar's virtues are recounted in it

١. يكادُ الدُّجى يغْدو صباحاً مشرقاً
إذا عُدِّدتْ فيها مناقبُ عنترِ

2. And the breeze of the air is revived during his praise
As if musk were spread on its highest board

٢. ويذْكو نسيم الجوِّ عند مديحهِ
كأن بأعلى لُوحِه نشرَ عنبرِ

3. He loans his determination in his fight
So no blame except to a conscience and breast

٣. يُعيرُ قَناهُ عَزْمَهُ في نِزالهِ
فلا طعْنَ إلا ف ضميرٍ ومحْجرٍ

4. The enemies and spies complained of his deadly assault
In the darkness of night or in the commotion of horses

٤. تشكَّى العدى والنِّيب سورة فتكه
بظلماء ليلٍ أو بهبوةِ عِثْيَرِ

5. So for the guest there are the humps of slaughtered camels as a gift
And for the birds there are the bodies of the red warrior

٥. فللضيف لُحْمان العشارِ مُنيفةً
وللطير جُثمان الكميِّ المُعَفَّرِ

6. His swords rise above residing in scabbards
Sheathing them between a head and a neck

٦. ترفَّع عن سكنى الغمودِ سيوفهُ
فيُغمدها ما بين رأسٍ ومِنْحرِ

7. And his horses dislike the white watering places
So he takes them to fresh red water

٧. وتكرهُ مُبْيضَّ المواردِ خيلهُ
فيوردها في ناصعِ اللون أحمر
