فضلت تهاني الأيام طرا

1. You have surpassed the best wishes of days, sublime,
My praise for you has exhausted speech,

١. فضَلْتَ تهانيَ الأيامِ طُرَّاً
فضاقَ بمدحِ عَلْياكَ الكلامُ

2. You have succeeded between softness and firmness until
Even your jealous rivals and the clouds are awed by you.

٢. وفُقْتَ بني النَّدى والبأسِ حتى
حَسوداك الصَّوارِمُ والغَمامُ

3. For every asker you are a rain-bursting cloud,
For every respondent you are an obliging keeper of trusts.

٣. فأنت لِكُلِّ مَجْدِبَةٍ قِطارٌ
وأنت لكُلِّ مُجْلِبَةٍ هُمامُ

4. You volunteer help and supply whenever hosts retreat and nobles withdraw.
Your possession rules the plains therein,

٤. تُبيحُ تَبَرُّعاً نَصْراً وَرِفْداً
إذا نكَصَ الجَحافلُ والكِرامُ

5. And your neighbor in al-Khasifah cannot be touched.
The thought of glorious deeds makes your warriors flee

٥. فمالُكَ يَحْكُمُ العافونَ فيهِ
وجارُكَ بالخَسيفةِ لا يُرامُ

6. Whenever the thought of fleeing seems sweet.
So the sultanate of sleep among them is a fugitive,

٦. يَفِرُّ كَراكَ منْ فكرِ المَعالي
إذا ما طابَ للنَّكسِ المَنامُ

7. Having from it flight and retreat.
And the sun of your opinion rises in the darkness

٧. فسُلْطانُ الرُّقادِ بها طَريدٌ
لهُ منها فِرارٌ وانْهِزامُ

8. And illuminates it though gloom had not withdrawn.
Every towering, lofty palm tree

٨. وتطلعُ شمسُ رأيكَ في الدَّياجي
فَتَجْلوها وما انْجابَ الظَّلامُ

9. Has its birds and poisonous vermin take flight.
For the lord of many tents there is a land of highness,

٩. فتَفْرَعُ كلَّ شامخةٍ كَؤَودٍ
يَزِلُّ الطَّيْرُ عنها والسِّامُ

10. While by others there is only pleasure or insignificance.
He has gained glorious qualities by effort and labor,

١٠. عُلاً للصاحبِ الجحْجاحِ أرضٌ
وعند سِواهُ رضْوى أو شَمامُ

11. So for him they are magnificent pillars.
Abu-l Faraj the advocate possessed them

١١. مكارِمُ حازَها نجْراً وسَعْياً
فهُنَّ له جليلاتٌ ضِخامُ

12. When the cultured and the swordsmen were humbled.
And so every feast and holiday has congratulated

١٢. تَمَلَّكها أبو الفَرَجِ المُحامي
إذا ذلَّ المُثَقَّفُ والحُسامُ

13. Him when even the hot wind was still.

١٣. فهُنِّيَ كُلُّ ما عَشْرٍ وعِيدٍ
به ما اهْتَزَّ للرِّيحِ الثُّمامُ
