1. You contended and the sacred month you ruptured
Though he was virtuous, you are more virtuous

2. He called people to piety and never ceased preaching
Goodness, bestowing honors and giving freely

3. And he was titled the sacred month, yet never
Ceased being forbidden to the maidens, secluded and chaste

4. And every year once, his blessings
While you, for all time among people are the superior

5. And he commands piety, yet a group disobeys him
While you are obeyed, commissioned with righteousness

6. Three share with him the honors
Yet none can equal you among the exalted

7. So I congratulated you, shining, wearing the like of him
Lofty supreme, no friend of the palm more generous

8. As if Ahmad ibn Muhammad’s endeavors
Are stars which the horizons for him effaced and extinguished

9. Illuminating, guiding every nobleman to the sublime
Facilitating the arduous and guiding the lost

10. Dazzling, as if the sun were of his partitions
When speeches by night with clubs are extinguished

11. Learned in the course of speech and spear
I stabbed him, and the saying separation and clarity

12. So I contended with him since my day, forgot him and made peace
Both furnish with argument and furnish

13. For ink, proof with evidence is eloquent
And for wine, a draft of swords most cutting

14. He is steadfast in council, dignified and revered
And atop the horse necks, a lion and strong

15. Abu Ja’far, crown of kings, who for him
In every place of glory, a station

16. The young man of resolve, as for protecting fierce
Stalwart, and as for concluding, a fortress

17. His spears’ stabs aggress the armored
And in peace amongst the populace, just

18. So blessed is he whose love took root, sound of prohibition
Nights flutter and he in patience wanes
