Or gentle raindrops patter down allowed,

2. A youth of noblest traits and destined fame
Before whom bow the glorious and the famed,

And each a master was in high affairs,

4. Then came Bahauddin—his actions but enhance
His radiant visage and his countenance.

5. His stern resolve makes Indian steel grow soft
And shatters lance-tips though unbent aloft,

6. Grieves he when kinsmen’s whims to riot lead
Yet to his foes shows mercy in their need,

7. Sheltered, his guest no violation fears
Though tribes should leave him to the brigands’ spears

8. Not years on years his solemn word belies
Though covenants the perjurers despise.

9. He grants the beggar time, and not in haste,
Exacts the debt when excuses end disgraced.

10. This fasting month has gained, for its renown,
Achievements high—his age has laurels won,
