1. O Najd, greetings! But where are the dwellings of Najd?
Greetings are only conveyed when the abodes draw near.

2. The lands spread between us, so the horses
Became the only visitors, not the loved ones.

3. Imposing mountains with difficult terrain,
And flat expanses with soft sand.

4. Beyond separation is the specter of a dream
That absence cannot prevent from visiting.

5. The vigilant prefer wakefulness when he walks,
And the darkness of night - when will dawn break?

6. Do not think that love between us
Can be ended by estrangement.

7. Without your affection, sighs
With burning embers and kindling.

8. Whenever ardent longing stirs up memories,
Succor is weakened and endurance breaks.

9. O rider who spurs the steed to the loved one,
Urging him forward and struggling!

10. Sleep is prolonged by indulging in pleasure,
And prevented by the pulls of one enamored.

11. Whenever a group mounts at the station,
There are perfumes of iris and sweet rose.

12. Say to the people of Iraq that the son of Sayfī
Is as bold as you knew him, most resolute,

13. Defiant with kings, no cowardice in him,
Only acceptance and seriousness.

14. Not lamenting homelands made me weak,
Nor did vileness and ruin make me care.

15. I am too proud for the path of disgrace,
Just as the camel spurns unfamiliar terrain.

16. My patience is that of the assailant steadfast on plunder,
After he has gained power and control.

17. To me times of woe and bounty are the same,
Misfortune and fortune equal in my eyes.

18. And if love does not last, it makes no difference -
The joy of union or the pain of separation.

19. God does what He wills, none can evade
Or repeal what He has decreed.

20. The cautious man is helpless in his prudence,
Yet the wise fool rushes ahead blindly.

21. Why should my merit be degraded among people
Whose munificence is promised, while my poetry is real?

22. They hoard wealth for extravagance while I
Censure them for the most lavish spending.

23. How often I have spurned praise in eulogies to people
Whose praise was blasphemy against glory!

24. Need has driven the truthful to dishonesty,
For life requires certain falsehoods.

25. I do not fear loss of wealth, and ahead of me
Are good fortune and the eternal King.

26. By my father's conquests, hardships are eased
And afflictions soothed for those in need.

27. A king who provides for the poor
And for the army, power and support.

28. Whenever he engages brigades and regiments,
A horde complains and a delegation praises.

29. Excellent is he whose onslaught in battle
Was honored, while under the canopy his manner is gentle.

30. When his sword tires of the sheath, it becomes
His separator of the crowned from their heads.

31. His abode is a tumult of hospitality,
With fires of hosting and fragrant perfumes.

32. In the clash of wars a lion in his lair
Who has endured adversity and is wise in peace.

33. Lavishly spending his immense generosity,
Wealth is demolished where glory is built.

34. After his praise and noble deeds,
A drawn sword, a gaze, and a high resolve remain.

35. Alert, grasping even subtleties,
A penetrating mind and the wisdom of a lion.

36. Aloof from the domain of sin,
As the ostrich shuns rugged terrain.

37. Generosity adorned by spontaneous giving -
His way is not asking and toil.

38. His palace of gifts spans the lands,
Beyond counting and measure.

39. The rescuer of the faith who bought praise with his soul,
And made the wealth as an offering never to be refused.

40. So the rhymes have praised him,
And the eloquent bard begins to sing.

41. O son of the servant of kings, with might
Feared by armored and mailed warriors!

42. Those who were arrogant are now your servants,
Though once they were the attacking troops.

43. The tattered shoes of their servants
Would violate the law if they competed with you!

44. For you are the egg whites, the quails, and the meat -
Signs of nobility, while they are the plucked fowl.

45. And when genealogists judge the people,
You are the certified pedigree.

46. Your glorious lineage remains unsullied
Though your efforts are worn out silk made anew.

47. Fulfill my right, for my merit
Departed alone while you remain unique among people.
