When no reciter intoned its verses.

12. By God, were it not for the chosen Imam
No devoted heart would remain unruptured.

Despite its far reach and high mountains.

15. Nor that the earth could be rid of your presence,
That the moon could wane after its fullness.

16. You made death obey, commanding and forbidding,

17. Did your palaces become deserted,
Or Paradise's gardens abandoned?

18. Did your weary body hide from view
When efforts failed and strength departed?

And your sharp sight begin to falter?

Your spirit rose above the home of annihilation.

24. Had rebellious fate ignited unrest,
And a swarm of pigeons attacked in war,

25. Horses would have charged before you
Galloping swiftly into the fray.

26. Like wild cows amidst the rain clouds
Raining swords continuously.

27. Whenever darkness engulfed the battlefield
Gleaming blades lit up the scene.

28. Turning the plain into a sea of blood
After the army was washed away in the flood.

29. But God does not fail what He ordains
With might and cunning against His creation.

30. Then oh how I grieve for the noble steed
Killed without fighting or struggle.

31. His blade rusted beyond polishing
After the swordsmen failed to sharpen it.

32. And the noble horse retired still capable
Reined in before reaching full potential.

33. He settled in dear Iraqi soil
Worn not emaciated and frail.

34. Severing the cord without being branded,
Parting with grace not haste.

35. Death always pursues unrelentingly,
Spared neither by fleeing nor means.

36. With gaping mouth none can evade,
Neither mighty of strength nor crafty of plot.

37. A hero indeed, but cunningly
He exchanged glory for a quiet passing.

38. O Imam of truth, be patient
You are most worthy of patience and reliance.

39. Steel your heart that faced
The horsesโ€™ assault without care.

40. If you grieve for what has transpired
Glory itself will grieve and supreme goals falter.

41. He who attained his Lordโ€™s pleasure
And ascended through exaltations to exaltation.

42. For him the fullest rewards,
And for him the Most Merciful after ascension.
