And his nights complain of the aloofness of the stars

2. And his swords resent dwelling in scabbards
So his valor unsheathes them to clashes

3. And the caravan of his opinion moves ahead of his army
Vanquishing the misfortunes and calamities of war

4. His renown assaults as the sky proves stingy
Uncovering the clouds of years gone by

5. The clouds of his generosity rain blessings
And the good tidings of his life replace calamities

6. When he marches between banners and battle
Praise surrounds him amidst dew and lightning

7. His hands attain the wealth of valor and bounty
Which he divides between the healthy and the ill

8. Exposing the downcast to the radiance of morn
With a chapter of drought or a morsel from meager rations

9. A minister whose stern voice frightens aggression
When opinions thrust into straits

10. When they argue with him through suspicion
He repels them with proofs and facts

11. Rendering their mouths unlike other mouths
And their speech unlike any other speech

12. Abu Ja'far, crown of kings and protector of refugees
Resident and shelter for the jet-set and the destitute
