1. They were astonished at an Iraqi with no foolishness
Nor hypocrisy, wickedness, or lies
١. تعجَّبوا منْ عِراقيٍّ بِلا سَفَهٍ
ولا نفاقٍ ولا خُبثٍ ولا كَذِبِ
2. He sees the pride of rhymes in their expansion
As shameful even if they appear wondrous in verse
٢. يرى فَخارَ القوافي منْ توسُّعِها
عاراً وإنْ جاء في المنظومِ بالعجب
3. And they were awed by my words, so I said to them
I am a loyal follower of Ali, master of the Arabs
٣. واستعظموا شأن أقوالي فقلت لهم
إني وَليُّ عليٍّ سيدِ العربِ
