1. Words for him, and arrogance wrinkles his brow,
His adornment honey-sweet, and his traits,

2. He lets blood flow through the suburbs, and mounts
To no comfort his steed and his weapons.

3. Do you boast you were named a feast? While in Baghdad
A feast that its rituals never go missed,

4. The world rejoices in it once a year,
While you are but a bit of dew I can spare.

5. Ibn Hammad's secret was always to smile through time,
Never once failing us, his day and his night.

6. Yet you came to slay the Prophet in his home,
And slay his foes, though mourning's blades still bite.

7. A lad alive and bright of brow, resolved
To glory though his Prophet's life it took

8. A leading man of refined manners is feared
Envied by stars and clouds that rain and pour

9. When the two seas meet: Hudaybiyyah and Khudayr,
His superiority and merits show all the more.
