1. Suns of meadows, if you wish for hopes,
And shades of lofty places, if you know sublime things,

2. Turn away from the land whose bliss is nothing but you,
Even if you attain it you will be suffering.

3. May God spare the effort of the heart from harm
When it fails to extract a healing determination.

4. So none gained hopes like an emigrant
To them, and lost success who lingered.

5. I disobeyed my father when I obeyed my greed,
And even if I were valiant, I would not disobey my father.

6. I continued disturbing the settled and heading to the sublime,
Bold as the chest of the Indian swift horse.

7. My worries race my riding camels
To a companion who becomes intimate with them.

8. Until the darkness engulfed me and souls
Succumbed to my superiority that do not like rhymed prose.

9. And here I am today, pleased with a trick,
And content to be called an expert flatterer.

10. I conceal the white hair that worries hastened its falseness,
Fearing that I find the fate complaining.

11. Silent, speech too narrow for it, and frowning,
If its states are tested, it will be crying.

12. Courage has not died in me, but it weakened it
What the ignorant attacker missed.

13. And the love of a minister from the sharpness of Hashim
Possessed my heart and stole my innermost being.

14. It made the bitter life seem sweet with his generosity,
And made the purest affection bitter.

15. I stood by him confused, never ceasing to be
For him a friend and a companion, not devoid of him.

16. Dazzling as the morning planet, his brow radiates
When traveling to the heights, becoming departing.

17. He crosses the changing fortunes yet is not seen
Throughout time except as a giver or a supporter.

18. If adversity forsakes the young man, he is a helper,
And if drought deprives lives, he is a water-bearer.

19. He is steadfast if you maintain him, and sublime
If you make him long, towering and lofty.

20. He surpasses the sweetness and softness of water’s zullal,
And excels the Yemeni sword in might.

21. His face illuminates the darkness of events and nights
For the confused mind, and clears away its gloom.

22. When good fortune makes him happy, his generosity suffices,
But if it did not make him happy, he comforts.

23. When the fires are put out by the foxes of turmoil,
He returns the glowing embers heated.

24. And every villain attacking the helpless,
He made long their misery in the earth and the plains.

25. The burr of night roared loudly in its transpiration
The leather waterskins and the shepherd’s staff.

26. The loss of the herdsman for a period, he could not bear faithfulness,
And did not cease being trusted and loyal.

27. And the armies came to the empty wilderness,
When they saw the abundant assembly for fleeing.

28. At that time, the dusty horizons were a crisis,
That brought back the rich life healthy and well.

29. It equaled the ostriches of the marshes and rabbit warrens
With a cavern where gazelles seek refuge.

30. So it became like the sand dunes and the slopes
Of the region—all were leveled, plateaued and valleyed.

31. It destroyed the glory of the wealthy and refused
To excuse him from retaining the summits.

32. It destroys the guardian of reason,
When he walks away in confusion with the pilgrims.

33. When wealth is destroyed by generosity and benefaction,
He builds the sublime with praises.

34. The ones who filled the world in peace and turmoil
With harm wherever I met them and their hands.

35. Savior of the blessed, or lion of war,
When they witness the heat of turmoil and wars.

36. If their prosperity strays from propriety in the darkness,
They illuminate it with the fires of the villages and plains.

37. When they perish, I find their legacy still
The generosity of the meadows and freed servants.

38. It eased for me doing good that I rewarded it
With blessings his righteous remaining hands.
