1. Muthaffar al-Din, if the men surpass,
The steeds have surpassed on the day of hasty departure.
١. مظفر الدين إنْ فاقَ الرجال فقد
فاق الجياد بيوم الطَّردِ أشْهبهُ
2. He who taught running in his glories,
From too much running and riding him.
٢. تعلَّم السَّبْقَ منه في مناقبهِ
من فرط ما راح يجريه ويركبُهُ
3. Listening to the whisper of a secret of his horseman,
As if with the conscience of running he beats him.
٣. مُصْغٍ إلى هاجس من سر فارسه
كأنه بضمير الركضِ يضْربهُ
4. He approaches him from afar fast on earth,
As if his tether in pulling him is his forelock.
٤. يدنو عليه بعيد الأرض مُرتكضاً
كأنَّ مربطهُ في الشد سبسبه
5. He sees an inscription like Solomon's on his gray,
When it goes forth and the wind is its vessel.
٥. يَرَ نُقشٌ كسليمانٍ بأشْهبَه
إذا غدا ورخاءُ الريح مركبه
6. When it was accustomed in war to blood shedding,
It went forth in peace to henna dyeing him.
٦. لما تعوَّد في حربٍ خِضابَ دَمٍ
غدا لدى السلم بالحِنَّاء يخضِبهُ
