1. The generous host has a spacious abode,
Filled with ashes in the empty valley.

١. موسَّعُ المعروفِ رحْبُ المنزلِ
جمُّ الرَّمادِ في الجديب المُمْحِلِ

2. As if it were a twisting serpent
With people between fearful and hopeful.

٢. كأنهُ عند التِفافِ العُيَّلِ
والقومُ بين خائِفٍ ومُرْمِلِ

3. A necklace of pearls for the thirsty,
Or the illusion of a loud bell.

٣. سَلْسالُ وِرْدٍ للظِّماء مُثْعِلٍ
أو أيْهَمُ الصَّهوة ضخم الكلْكل

4. It cannot be reached by cunning tricks,
A soaring eagle spreading its wings.

٤. لا يُرتقى بحِيَلِ التَّوَقُّلِ
مُحلِّقٌ يُرْخي جناح الأجْدَلِ

5. Its neighbor and guest are in a fortress,
Muhammad the virtuous pointed with fingers.

٥. فجارهُ وضَيْفُهُ في مَعْقِلِ
محمَّدُ الخيرِ مُشار الأنْمُلِ

6. The best of ministers who cheered the assembly,
And weighed the importance of gatherings.

٦. خيرُ وزيرٍ حلَّ صدر المحْفِل
وزانَ جمعَيْ محْفِلٍ وجحفل

7. It contained the heights with pulpits and platforms,
And surpassed the finest of lineages.

٧. حَوى العُلى بمزْبَرٍ ومُنْصُلِ
وفاقَ أشْراف الطِّرازِ الأول

8. By his efforts and noble ancestry,
He came like a caravan at nightfall.

٨. بسَعْيهِ والنَّسَبِ المُصَلْصَل
فجاءَ كالمِرْحل عند الهوْجَلِ

9. Sprinkling dust on the settled abodes,
When its followers marched on campaigns.

٩. يذْرو على الهُجن غبار القسْطل
إذا تلَتْ أعْقابَهُ في المِرْسَل

10. Leaving them to wander like blind camels,
A fine refuge for the deluding night-raider.

١٠. غادرها تَرْسُف مثل الأقْزَلِ
ونِعْم مأوى الطَّارقِ المُخَيِّلِ

11. The night surrendered him, and the gusts of evil,
Reluctantly to the horror of torment.

١١. أسْلمهُ الليل وعصْفُ الشَّمْأل
كرْهاً إلى هوْل العذابِ المُنْزَلِ

12. Of harshness, isolation, and ravaging,
At the time of bleakness like clipped wings.

١٢. مِن سَغَبٍ وفَرَقٍ وأفْكَلِ
إِبَّانَ قُرٍّ كالطَّريرِ المِقْصَل

13. His firmness splits the ribs of coats of mail,
And the gleam of swords deludes.

١٣. يرْشُقُ كلَّ وجْنةٍ بمِعْبَلِ
صُرادُه يفْلُق صُلْب الجنْدَل

14. And the thrust of lightning held back,
Al-Wali, the pillar of faith, is seen there.

١٤. وعَزَّ لَمْعُ الخُلَّبِ المُخَيِّلِ
ومانَ صَوبُ الرَّاعِد المجلْجل

15. More beneficial than a rainy cloud's downpour,
So he lodged the guest in the best dwelling,

١٥. يُرى هناك عُضَد الدين الولي
أنفَع من وسْميِّ غيْثٍ ووَلي

16. And replaced the barren valley with fertile green,
Thus he lived for kindness and nobility.

١٦. فأنْزلَ الضَّيْف بخيرِ مَنْزِل
وبَدَّل الجدْب بخصبٍ مُخضِل

17. As long as the night is not dispelled by the arriving dawn.

١٧. فعاشَ للإِحْسانِ والتَّفَضُّلِ
ما طُرِدَ الليلُ بصبحٍ مُقْبِل
