1. I knew that the falsity of the Tigris
And my dignity when the desires of men have diminished

2. And that I am violent with patience when
The great men and the sharp swords sprouted

3. And that I forgive the foolish and take the prophet
As an example and shelter the neighbor

4. I turn gently to the ignorant aggressor
And strike the head of the transgressor

5. And avoid joking speech haughtily
For my glory, from one who harms my sanctity

6. And how many foolish in opinion and speech
Whose obscenities repelled the roaring lion

7. Who says obscenities to me as I answer him
So he becomes equal to me in speech

8. I repeated forgiveness to him until his crimes changed
From turbulence to excuses

9. The needy kept me up at night to help him
While his Lord slept not watching over him

10. I travelled by night selflessly
So it came while the morning had no announcer

11. When a hope was high I intended to attain it
Riding the mounts of determination before the cavalry

12. And I long for one with strong preservation
Severe in battle, bitter in the first strikes

13. When I point him to victory in word he charges
With the edges of swords so slaughter prevails

14. When he sheaths the white swords in blood
And crushes the necks in throats

15. Let the evildoer choose me for vengeance
Choose a goat not a prohibitor

16. So he takes vengeance on those who wronged me first
And asks about those who drew my war last

17. He will be my supporter when I attain the heights
And the heights are not attained but with helpers

18. I have irked the people of Zuraa with glory so they hated me
Does the subdued conceal love for the conqueror?

19. And my sanctity disliked their foolishness so they turned away
The turning away of cattle from the dwellings of lions

20. And how can the night stay while the sun is shining
And the doves of thickets near the dens of hyenas

21. Had they been reasonable, pottery by my will
Would have been worthier of gifts and insights

22. But they lost me while God is the Keeper
The sun’s rest covers not the hand of the protector

23. Had they glanced away from the eyes of truth to my will
They’d have seen the king of hopes in the garb of a poet

24. The sword refused but mortal blows
Whose echoes are watered with blood of veins

25. And horses that compete with destruction as though they are
The eagles of shrublands or the wolves of carrion

26. Therewith the injustice to every betrayer lessens
And it pulls to every deserter

27. Frolicking under the armored warriors are its joys
On the meadows of griefs blooming

28. When it was said this terror revived its vigor
With the striking of arms, not the skinning of the scratcher

29. Upon them from me is every gentle expression
Too lofty to meet with meanness without declining

30. My brother Damd, the heart tightened with worries
So relieve with a gift, a pardoner

31. We deserted every unseemly source for our hopes
And you did not see except barren over barren

32. A day of battle whose violence darkens its sun
And the blossoms of the withered blaze

33. We brought them down therein with a stab as though it were
The slashing of the noble and the striking of the wet nurse

34. And we led them under the violence as though
Plucking the roes of the bounding long-striding

35. Had it not been for the patience of Ibn Khalid's son
He would not have stopped striking bloody batterings

36. A young man who set the course of patience without humiliation
To every quarrel in dispute, reconciling

37. And let down the water of generosity until
The eyes of the tribes visited without a rainy downpour

38. Obeyed without killing, and the hyenas were not unleashed
For love of evil, but for obedience to orders

39. He imagined displaying his integrity spreading a meadow
Which mortality’s arrows had struck

40. When a people set out to gain wealth, their efforts are
Building glory and gaining pride

41. He protected his neighbor when evil was feared
Not fearing the greatness of enemies

42. And one whose distinction the land tightened around in fear
As the passes tighten around the refugee

43. No safe fortress protects a secure man
Nor does the ominous night with its veils

44. When he says this is an impenetrable refuge
I hurl at its peaks, hurling of stormy clouds

45. He wishes the matter was in a commendable woman
Who would protect him with the tents' curtains

46. He tossed his pure, immaculate women
To safety, pure of any blemish

47. Receive safety without fulfilling pledges
With lies or oaths with immoralities

48. With my sides the rhymes lean as walked
The gait of the ink in the bones of the carved

49. When the eulogizer composes for other than him
His eulogizer composing his eulogy is no debaucher

50. The world goes astray with him boastfully and he walks bent
With what he attained of undeserved glory

51. Knowledgeable in reforming the land
His words' magic turns animosity into a peace-maker

52. And it goes therewith to the sullen as a ladder of treaties
His trusting steeds stand tied with glorious deeds

53. Raising the house's pillar, fulfilling glories
When they come to him he gives from his right

54. A stored abundance making commands forgotten
They have sustenance and favors from him

55. So none saw but a giver, duty to the deserving obscured
There, the arrival of fasting and celebration, while both

56. Are your partners in piety and good tidings
I felt secure from the turns of events and my protection

57. In your strong cloak that guarded me
And silenced the clamor of afflictions, though perhaps

58. It would have thrown me had you not armed me
The hands of the young man are a treasure among the people and they

59. Are for the eloquent and noble the best treasures
I am not to your blessings an ingrate

60. Nor to your great hands a disbeliever
Far from you one day to be seen unbenevolent

61. Far from me one moment to be seen ungrateful
