1. The tribe of al-Muzaffar, time bears witness,
Are pure in lineage, morals, and deeds.

2. Their places never perplex the visitor,
Nor do they recline amidst decadence or wine.

3. Their cooking pots complain of excess wood,
As do their waists of excess flesh and hips.

4. In vigil they toss about deliriously,
And awake stoking flames into a blaze.

5. When their youth rest from courting,
Absent are those who rend the hyena and billy goat.

6. They grew to support the arm of the noble religion when
Assistance was scarce and the common folk submissive.

7. Then came al-Aghlab with his white intention,
Whose palms' clouds suffice instead of rain.

8. He defeats green palm trees with his gifts
And overpowers the memory of the sharp sword.

9. The lame bests the firm-footed in flight
When the flesh of the feather-legged is weakened.

10. He disdains not to bestow gifts,
Rather he cloaks the despised in his generosity.

11. If an asker comes to his palms,
He looks away in shyness and averts his gaze.

12. And if men rise above his generosity,
He is tranquil, neither arrogant nor wicked.

13. In love, I am a pliant branch, smooth to the touch,
In protection, a sharp sword leaving a trace.

14. Muhammad is sustenance on a wintry night
When the cold grows intense and pierces skins.

15. Mentioning him in any gathering
Is like a meadow's breeze or sprinkle of rain.

16. My words fall short describing his generosity;
My praise, though prolonged, is but concise.

17. And people wonder at a sea which bestows
Its seekers pearls in excess bounty.

18. I am the last, though I surpassed the sons
Of former and latter nobility in merit.

19. The morning breeze was sweet in every lofty abode,
To the passionate, and the excellence was of poetry.

20. Give me glad tidings; I specified it not only for Rajab,
The prosperity of your existence graces time and era!
