1. With Sa'd's mounted riders at Khindif
And with Qais, you know their abode,
١. فسائلْ بسَعدَيَّ في خِندفٍ
وقيسٍ ، وعندكَ تبيانها
2. And if you ask Al-Hayy from Wail
A young camel will inform you, and its old one too.
٢. وإنْ تسألِ الحيَّ من وائلٍ
تنبئكَ عجلٌ ، وشيبانها
3. At the valleys of Jadood, now desolated
By the neighing of the horse stallions
٣. بوادِي جَدُودَ ، وقَد غُودِرَتْ
بصيقِ السَّنابكِ أعطانها
4. With mounted knights, like pillars from Wail
Guarding the frontiers, roaming them
٤. بأرعنَ ، كالطودِ ، من وائئلٍ
يَؤُمُّ الثُّغورَ ، يَعْتانُها
5. The earth nearly shakes for him out of veneration
When he walks, its pillars tremble
٥. تكادُ له الأرضُ ، منْ رزهِ
إذا سار ، ترجفُ أركانها
6. Qadamis leads them, driven by motivation
And Abjar, whose heels flutter
٦. قداميسُ ، يقدمها الحوافزانُ
وأَبجَرُ ، تَخفِقُ عِقبانُها
7. And Jaththam, when he walked among his people
He brought us foolishness, and his red camels
٧. وجَثّام ، إِذ سارَ في قَومهِ
سَفاها إِلَينا ، وحُمرانُها
8. And Taghlib, when the enemy of Laqeeh fought it
It raged, and its fires blazed
٨. وتغلبُ ، إذ حربها لاقحٌ
تُشَبُّ ، وتُسعَرُ نِيرانُها
9. The morning the sound of drums reached us
With no regard for abandoning it
٩. غداةَ أتانا صريخُ الرّبابِ
ولم يكُ يصلحُ خذلانها
10. A cry for Dhabbah, the day of Hudhail
And Dhabbah returns the wailing of its women
١٠. صَرِيخٌ لضَبَّةَ ، يَومَ الهُذَيلِ
وضَبَّةُ تُردَفُ نِسوانُها
11. They took them by surprise, and the dawn was a raid
The kindling fires of the warriors' quarters
١١. تداركهمْ ، والضُّحى غدوةٌ ،
خناذيذُ تشعلُ أعطانها
12. With lions from the horsemen, vanquishers of necks
Unafraid, did not dread its inflammation
١٢. بأُسدٍ منَ الفِرزِ ، غُلْبِ الرِّقابِ
مصاليتَ ، لم يخشَ إدهانها
13. So it destroyed a blooming youth, Sharmadh
Whose desires were boundless, well-bred his pedigree
١٣. فحَطَّ الرَّبِيعَ فَتًى شَرمَحٌ
أَخوذُ الرَّغائبِ ، مَصنانُها
14. Qadim leads them, and fame is known upon his neck
Which his twisted and curled hair-locks sing of
١٤. فقاظُ ، وفي الجيدِ مشهورةٌ
يُغَنِّيهِ في الغُلِّ إِرنانُها
