1. The sea of eloquence and philosophical discourse,
The guiding star of sailing and Joseph-like beauty,

2. O Lord of wit, subtlety, and wisdom,
The most refined and brilliant wit of time,

3. O my Lord, so great in rank and stature,
Of the highest status and most noble life,

4. O best of creations, of pleasing manners and temperament,
Of good traits and just judgment,

5. I was ignorant of the contentment you possess,
Of your noble morals and pure heart,

6. Until I saw in you a deed I had not seen
Except in Joseph the noble.

7. So for that I thank your kindness and greatness
Of that fine favor which did not fade,

8. By you I have persisted, frequenting the pardon
By which pardon is attained on the Day of Judgment.
