1. The cheeks of the garden's branches are adorned
With necklaces of flowers and jewels.

2. The mouths of flowers beam smiles
From the fragrance of sweet-smelling perfume.

3. The cheeks of peonies blush
In the rosy dawn’s glow.

4. For beauty, brides don themselves
In fresh, green chrysanthemum veils.

5. And the garden’s branches dress themselves
In emeralds that inspire delight.

6. How splendid are its trees, now leafy boughs
Like chrysolite, blossoms shining overhead,

7. Loveliest garden with flowers bright.
As though bubbles of emerald

8. Erected in a patch of ambergris.
Its scents and views give spirit joy;

9. Its streams are silver waters -
Drink, and it's the sweetest sugar.

10. Flowing over pebbles that sparkle like gems
On saffron, musk-scented ground.

11. Many a beholder loses his way at the sight -
Bewildered, stunned. I’ve seen one swoon

12. From the paradisal beauty.
As though drunk on powerful wine,

13. Lost in wonder's shackles.
The coo of doves - unintelligible

14. Yet sweeter to the ear than a donkey’s bray.
The music of a Persian lute makes

15. Even the dumb leaves of the Hijaz speak.
Many hearts in love enraptured sigh

16. When the youths of Isfahan pour wine.
Truly, it’s a garden whose inhabitants

17. Are houris and lovely nymphs.
It’s the place of tryst for every lithe-waisted lover

18. When he emerges, the branches all a-quiver, disdainful of all things brown.
It’s the station of every one whose brow

19. Puts the radiant sun to shame.
Of every coquette who grasps the reins of dignity

20. Of every lion amongst wild lions - fierce and angry.
It’s the orb of every female of beauty and grace

21. Who dawns with cheeks all rosy bright.
Their beauty's intrinsic, not incidental.

22. Essence itself, not transient shape.
Yet blind conformity entraps the fool.

23. Can't you see that beauty is essential,
That quiddity itself means beauty?

24. The erudite scholar, the eloquent sage
Without peer or parallel in his age.

25. The venerable imam and guide
At creation's sanctum - the noblest Messenger.

26. Treasury of sciences, gem of wonder-working.
Pearl of rhetoric, order's greatest pride.

27. Ocean of knowledge no thought can fathom -
An abyss wherein vast seas subside.

28. Gentle by nature - always inclined
To the right upon the roads leftward.

29. Blessed in deeds - and he is Muhammad
Whose mighty glory none can e'er deny.

30. Sweet in manner, graced by perfection,
Though perfection suits the free best, I espied.

31. His venerable face abrim with gravity -
On gazing, awe descends that ravishes the sight.

32. Majestic, fortunate - his repute.
Nobler than the noble sun that has no peer.

33. Generous, munificent - his nature's wont.
Bounteous sea that knows no bound nor border.

34. Clement - his forbearance is the sun that ever shines,
Else none survive the Resurrection-Plain.

35. Marvels issue from him incessantly.
Wonders proliferate; bizarre, unique.

36. Son of glories, praise, and high estate!
Father of pride and beauty brighter than the full moon's light!

37. Since you were a precious jewel -
The noblest kinsman, best provenance.

38. You're but his very essence manifest.
As crimson's linked to red in arguably the finest tie.

39. Nay, but you're a sea wherefrom strange gems arise,
And your ascribing proof within the context lies.

40. If you're a star and he the constellation,
Remember that you are the shining sun - be glad!

41. Every glory and praise falls short
In depiction of your charm and beauty yet untold.

42. If they were yours, O son of honor and munificence -
A ring for you to don on your smallest finger joint!

43. In praising you, to my genius I did speak:
Extol this laudable one - give ample thanks!

44. And she brought some fine verses in painterly display
From treasuries of time-hallowed verse from wisdom's vaults.

45. But they're like the spider's web - though what it weaves
Displays exquisite design, it cannot long endure.

46. Yet one pillar they possess to cling unto:
The praise of one noble son of a noble, generous sire.

47. So these verses come like a resplendent bride,
On dainty feet, lifting her veils of misty gossamer.

48. Please accept them - for acceptance is their bride-price.
And happiness in satisfaction is the finest dower.

49. Live on in joy while verses edify,
Or the son of Fathullah perfumes his verse to you

50. With odes as sweet as amber's gentle scent.
