1. The beauty's daughter, in whom beauty thrives
And perfect grace in souls is seen alive

١. اِبنَةُ الحُسنِ بِها الحُسنُ سَما
وَتَجلَّت بِالجَمالِ الأَنفَسِ

2. Eclipsing sun, extinguishing the stars
Occluding moon, and every comet mars

٢. تَكسِفُ الشّمسَ وَتَمحو الأَنجُما
تَخسِفُ البَدرَ وَكلّ الخنَّسِ

3. God made her of sheer beauty, kept her pure
Lest matched her beauty be, of that be sure

٣. صاغَها اللَّه مِنَ الحُسنِ وَصَانْ
حُسنَها عَن أَن يُضاهى بِمِثالْ

4. With her God beauty graced, and granted her
Its ornament, a perfect decorator

٤. جَمَّل اللَّهُ بِها الحُسنَ وَزان
وَسِواها زِينَ مِنهُ بِالجَمال

5. She is beauty's fount, in every age and hour
Beauty's essence from her freely did shower

٥. فَهيَ عَينُ الحُسنِ في كلِّ زَمان
فاضَ مِنها جَوهرُ الحُسنِ وَسال

6. To liken her to suns reveals confused mind
Nay, 'tis the soul's true vision rendered blind

٦. مَن يُشبِّهْها بِشَمسٍ عدما
فَهمَهُ بَل هُوَ عَينُ الأَهوَسِ

7. Incorrect of thought and lacking insight
Had they but seen the difference in her light

٧. فاسِدُ الرّأيِ بِجَهلٍ وَعَمى
لَو رَأى الفرقَ هُنا لَم يَقِسِ

8. Her cheek a garden of beauty, while a fire
Tormenting my heart with sweet, painful desire

٨. خَدُّها جَنّةُ حُسنٍ وَهوَ نارْ
نَعّمت قَلبِيَ فيها بِالعِذابْ

9. The rose buds in her, ruby melts away
In her, my inner jewels waste away

٩. نَبتَ الوَردُ بِها وَالجلّنار
وَبِها ياقوتُ أَحشائِيَ ذَاب

10. On her the brocade of olden days took pride
Seeking in her eternal youth beside

١٠. وَعَلَيها سُندس السالِفِ دَار
قاصِداً لِلخُلدِ مِن غَيرِ اِرتِياب

11. By God! The rose buds in her fiery cheek
In her the choice brocade its glory did seek

١١. بِأَبي النّار بِها الوَردُ نَما
وَاِكتَسى فيها بِأَسنى السندُسِ

12. To kiss this fire dispelling grief and care
Just as within it lies the soul's repair

١٢. لَثمُ هَذي النّارِ مُطفٍ للظّما
مِثلَما فيهِ شِفاءُ الأَنفُسِ

13. In her there lies a human, clear as day
Above her cheek, like amber's gentle sway

١٣. خَالها إِنسان عَيني قَد ظَهَرْ
فَوقَ ذاكَ الخدِّ مثلَ العَنبَرِ

14. And on her beauty's garden he appeared
As drop on sun or moon when vision's cleared

١٤. وَبَدا فيهِ عَلى حُسنِ الخَفرْ
نُقطَة في الشّمسِ أَو في القَمرِ

15. He is as sun described in ancient verse
Like black of eye midst purest houri's face

١٥. فَهوَ في الشّمسِ كَما صَحَّ الخَبرْ
كَسَوادِ العَينِ وَسطَ الحَورِ

16. By God! Wherever amber shows its pride
Above the rose it joyfully resides

١٦. بِأَبي العَنبر يَزهو حَيثُما
كانَ فَوقَ الوَردِ بِالمُنغَرِسِ

17. And it, by blazing cheek, finds its perfume
Beneath the sword-leaf's shade and the narcissus bloom

١٧. وَهوَ مِسكٌ بِلَظى الخَدِّ اِحتَمى
تَحتَ ظِلِّ السّيفِ ثمّ النّرجِسِ

18. Her teasing, tormenting, ruby mouth
Sheds precious jewels amid her pearl, uncouth

١٨. ثَغرُها الأَلمى العُذيبُ الأَشنَبُ
يَلفِظُ الجَوهَرَ مِن بَينِ العَقيقْ

19. Its elixir openly boasts and brags
As if in ruby it was nourished from the vine

١٩. درُّهُ يَزهو عَلَيهِ الحببُ
وَهوَ في الياقوتِ يُسقى مِن رَحيق

20. A chain so sweet, the West forgets its drought
When by her mouth revived, death put to rout

٢٠. سَلسلٍ تَحلو فَينسى الغربُ
رَشفُها إِحياؤُهُ المَوتى حَقيق

21. This wine revives the greatest of the great
Restoring spirits by its sating weight

٢١. هَذِهِ الخَمرة تُحيي الأَعظما
تُنعِشُ الأَرواح مِنها فَاِحتَسِ

22. I wonder, did some scholar declare taboo
This wine for him who seeks its overdue?

٢٢. لَيتَ شِعري هَل إِمامٌ حَرَّما
هَذِه الخَمرَ عَلى مَن يَحتَسي

23. Who tastes it lives forever, never to know
The taste of death, or life itself forego

٢٣. مَن يَذُقها يَعِشِ الدّهرَ وَلَم
يَذُقِ المَوتَ فدى عَين الحَياهْ

24. No chronic illness touched the one who sipped
Except by it the cure was quickly gripped

٢٤. لَم يَذُقها خِدن داءٍ وَسَقَم
مُزمنٍ إِلّا بِها نال شِفاه

25. If you wish not by death to be outdone
Then drink it in ere parted by the lips

٢٥. إِنْ تَرُمْ أَن لا يُدانيكَ العَدَم
فَاِرتَشِفها وَهيَ ما بَينَ الشّفاه

26. That which lies between, the sweetest thing
Dispels all gloom and narrowness does bring

٢٦. فَالّذي ما بَينَها أَسنى اللّمى
يُذهِبُ الغمَّ وَضيق النّفسِ

27. With it, the smile's lightning you will gain
Bearer of radiance and beauty's chain

٢٧. وَتَكن مَعها لَثمت المَبسما
حاوِيَ البَرقِ وَحسْنِ اللعسِ

28. Her intoxicating fragmented glance
Bewitched, and plundered many a soul perchance

٢٨. جَفنُها المَكسور مِن حُسنِ الوَطَفْ
وَهوَ مَكحولٌ بِسِحرِ الدّعجِ

29. With it, hearts penetrated she did attack
As if an archer pierce with well-aimed knack

٢٩. فَلَكم بِالسّحرِ مِن عَقلٍ خَطَف
وَبِهِ قَد طالَ سَلبَ المهجِ

30. Within it lies a man, and sorcerer
Who sorcery for my like does confer

٣٠. كُلّما الهدبُ مِنَ الغمزِ اِنعَطَف
رَشق النّبلَ بِأَحشاءِ الشّجي

31. If he the sun impersonate and pretend
To catch it from the sphere's furthest end

٣١. وَبِهِ يصمي فُؤاداً قَد رمى
وَلَوِ اِحتَفّ بِحِفظِ الحرسِ

32. I wonder who has seen or ever known
A sorcerer 'mid humans or jinn shown

٣٢. وَهوَ مَخمورٌ بِخَمرينِ هُما
خَمرةُ الحُسنِ وَخَمر النَّعَسِ

33. To hunt the sun from heaven's drape unfurled
Or liken it to earthly maids and girls?

٣٣. لَحظُها الأَحوَرُ سَيفٌ باترُ
لَم يَدَع مِن مُهجَةٍ إِلّا فَتَكْ

34. Her face, the sun, erased all beauty's traces
The noblest of beauty from them it erases

٣٤. فيهِ إِنسانٌ وَلَكِن ساحِرُ
يَنسِجُ السّحرَ لِأَمثالي شَرَك

35. Her temple amidst the sun distinctly shows
Where the arch of eyebrows ascended grows

٣٥. لَو أَرادَ الشّمسَ إِذ تظَّاهرُ
صادَها وَاللَّه مِن كبدِ الفَلَك

36. Her bangs like night and dawn appear to all
Above her visage's sun they rise and fall

٣٦. لَيتَ شِعري مَنْ رَأى مَنْ عَلِما
ساحِراً في الجِنِّ أَو في الأنّسِ

37. They never set in any day all through
As they never set when the starling flew

٣٧. صائِداً لِلشّمسِ مِن كَبدِ السّما
أَو سِواها كَالجَواري الكنَّسِ

38. That night draws nigh in darkest gloom
That dawn glows bright shedding its plume

٣٨. وَجهُها الشَّمسُ مَحَت حُسنَ المِلاحْ
وَرَفيع الحُسنِ مِنهم وُضِعا

39. Her stature is the branch, but with a bend
From the hand of beauty it bows and does extend

٣٩. صدغُها العَقرَبُ وَسطَ الشّمسِ لاح
عِندَ قَوسِ الحاجِبين اِرتَفعا

40. Scornful of spear in height and straightness both
And bends my heart while straightening its growth

٤٠. فَرعُها وَالفَرقُ لَيلٌ وَصَباح
فَوقَ شَمسِ الوَجهِ حُسناً طَلعا

41. Whene'er beauty tilts toward it with a lean
It scorns the bend just like the branch's mien

٤١. لَم يَغيبا في نَهارٍ مِثلَما
لَم يَغيبا حينَ جَنح الحندسِ

42. It scorns the branch, which if it knew
It wished it hadn't into life breakthrough

٤٢. ذَلكَ اللّيلُ تَداجى مُظلِما
ذَلكَ الصّبح مُضيئ الغلسِ

43. Her neck as pillar of the dawn's first light
Its beauty transcending planet's shine so bright

٤٣. قَدُّها الغصنُ وَلَكِن بِالدّلالْ
مِن يَدِ الحُسنِ تَبَدّى يَنثَني

44. On it a necklace of pearls and gems lies bare
In which the eyes and minds entangled there

٤٤. يَزدَري بِالرّمحِ طولاً وَاِعتِدالْ
وَيحَ قَلبي مِنهُ ظَهري مُنحَني

45. As if horizon stars that come and go
Their brilliance from the east to west does flow

٤٥. كُلّما الحسنُ لَهُ عِطفاً أَمال
يَزدري بِالمَيل مَيل الأَغصنِ

46. By God! A necklace of gems was strung
As pillar of dawn in its glory was sung

٤٦. أَسِواهُ يَزدَري الغُصنَ وَما
كُلُّ قَدٍّ يزدري بالميسِ

47. Under the sun's rays, a smiled it wore
Like the pleats of cassia, gilt and more

٤٧. وَلو الغصن بِهذا أَعلَما
لَتَمنّى أَنَّه لَم يُغرَسِ

48. A coronet for beauty, in which beauty prides
While beauty's pride in finest crown resides

٤٨. جيدُها مِثلُ عَمودِ الصُّبحِ بانْ
حُسنُهُ فاقَ ضِياءَ الكَوكبِ

49. If it the sun saw, it would cease to gleam
Lest shamed, eclipsed, the sunlight it redeem

٤٩. وَعَليهِ عقدُ دُرٍّ وَجُمان
فيهِ حارَ الطّرفُ وَالعقلُ سُبِي

50. With highest beauty, it boasts and gloats galore
It spoke the truth, for boasting is no more

٥٠. كَنُجومِ الأُفقِ تَبدو لِلعَيان
ضَوؤُها مِن مَشرق لِلمَغربِ

51. Except through Ali, him exalted in rank
To whom the heads are raised, and knees they sank

٥١. بِأَبي الأَنجُمُ عقداً نظما
وَعَمود الصّبحِ فيهِ يَكتَسي

52. Through him glory ascended to its place
And thereby sneezing loudest does take place

٥٢. تَحتَ نورِ الشّمسِ نوراً بسما
وَثُرِيَّا الشنفِ مثل القبسِ

53. The hallmark of honor and pride's own crest
Epoch's glory, and my parents' best

٥٣. غادَةٌ لِلحُسنِ فيها مَفخرُ
فَخرُ ذاتِ الحُسنِ في أَسنى الحُلِي

54. By God, whoever swore by the forenoon
And then the night and late stars' opportune

٥٤. إِن رَأَتها الشّمس لَيسَت تظهرُ
خَشيَةَ الكَسفِ وَذلِّ الخَجَلِ

55. Such boasting, though so very rare to see
Such glory, and with it clad so rarely

٥٥. بِعَلِيِّ الحسنِ تيهاً تفخرُ
صَدَقت ما الفَخر إِلّا بِعَلي

56. Oh God, preserve this Imam, scholar supreme
Whose model every leader does redeem

٥٦. مَن لَهُ سامي المَعالي خَدَما
وَبِهِ فازَت بِرَفعِ الأَرؤُسِ

57. Unique, celebrated, proud and grand
Rebellious with perfect manner and stand

٥٧. مَن بِهِ المَجدُ تَسامى وَسَما
وَبِهِ صارَ أَشَمَّ المعطسِ

58. A guiding sun whose light brings certainty
And by it every star finds its clarity

٥٨. دَوحَةُ العِزِّ وَفَخرُ الشّرفِ
مُقلَةُ الدّهرِ وَإِنسانُ الكَمالْ

59. Its light, by God, dispels the darkest night
So hasten thou to it and seek its light

٥٩. في ذُرى العَلياءِ أَسنى الغرفِ
قَد بَناها فَوقَ هاماتِ المَعال

60. Strive, and from it wisdom do obtain
None gives it, but the one who strives to gain

٦٠. حَدّث الدّهرَ وَسِرْ لا تَقفِ
عَنهُ بِالمَجدِ وَبالِغ بِالمَقال

61. A lion, by God, who fears no lions dare
Upholds the truth and falsehood does impair

٦١. لَم تَطُل وَاللَّهِ مِنهُ عشرُ ما
حازَهُ أَو عشرُ عشر الخُمسِ

62. Speaks truth despite the envious abhor
He feared no speakers in God evermore

٦٢. كَيفَ يُحصى البَحرُ قطعاً إِنّما
ظَنُّ حَصرِ البحرِ عَينُ الهوسِ

63. Who speaks the truth is wise and sagely sane
With truth how many beasts did he enchain

٦٣. يا لَهُ مِن أَمجَدٍ قَد جَمعا
كَرمَ الأَصلِ وَأَعلى النّسبِ

64. With truth's arrows he struck down many a knight
And with truth's arrows he strikes, dignified

٦٤. وَحَوى مَع حَسبٍ قَد رُفِعا
شَرفُ العِلمِ وَحسنِ الأدبِ

65. The epitome of grace and purpose true
The hallmark of good deeds bearing fruit

٦٥. فيهِ مَجدُ الدّهرِ وَالفخرُ مُعا
وَبِهِ الفَخر لِأمّ وَأَبِ

66. Heart's blood of kindness, soul of propriety
His kindness transcending the dawn's breeze flowery

٦٦. قَسَماً بِاللَّه مَن قَد أَقسَما
بِالضُّحى وَاللّيلِ ثمَّ الخنَّسِ

67. Seal of generosity, giving Arab style
His palms made rains appear benign and mild

٦٧. هَكَذا الفَخرُ وَلَكِن قَلَّما
هَكَذا المَجد وَمَن فيهِ كُسي

68. As if an eye overflowing with boons
None else distilled such generosity

٦٨. يا رَعاهُ اللَّه مِن حَبْرٍ إِمامْ
إِذ بِهِ كلُّ إِمامٍ يَقتدي

69. Unheard of in degree of his sheer grace
Lost to an age whose memory none can trace

٦٩. جَهبَذٌ فَردٌ شَهيرٌ وَهُمام
مُتَردٍّ بِكمالِ السّؤددِ

70. Son of the sovereign of saints combined
Gnosis's polestar, and the wisest of mind

٧٠. شَمسُ هَديٍ أَشرَقَت تَهدِي الأنام
بِهُداها كلُّ نَجمٍ يَهتدي

71. My master Jilani, shaykh of the pious ones
Knower of secrets and insights plainly shown

٧١. نُورُها وَاللَّهِ يَجلو الظُّلُما
فَلَهُ بادِرْ وَمِنهُ اِقتَبس

72. Follower of the best of prophets' ways
His grandfather, the Chosen, displayed

٧٢. تَكتَسِبْ وَاللّهِ مِنهُ حِكَما
لَيسَ يُعطاها سِوى المُقتَبِس

73. The best of messengers, unto whom God spoke
And drew most nigh at the nocturnal invoke

٧٣. أَسَدٌ وَاللَّهِ لا يَخشى الأُسودْ
يُثبِتُ الحقَّ وَيَمحو الباطِلا

74. When with him did the Lord of heaven ascend
And Gabriel, the Spirit, his close friend

٧٤. يَنطِقُ الحقّ عَلى رَغمِ الحَسود
لَم يَكُن في اللَّهِ يَخشى قائِلا

75. May that valiant in most pleasant life remain
His being unmarred, in body without pain

٧٥. مَن يَقولُ الحَقَّ وَاللَّهِ يَسود
مَن يَقولُ الحقّ كانَ العاقِلا

76. Rather, he makes the ages seem renewed
As if in body always fresh imbued

٧٦. كَم بِقَولِ الحقِّ قرماً صَدَما
وَعَليهِ صالَ كَالمُفتَرِسِ

77. And God upon him blessings infinite
Beyond what leaves upon their branches alight

٧٧. كَم بِسَهمِ الحقِّ مِن ليثٍ رَمى
وَبِسَهمِ الحقِّ يَرمي عَن قِسي

78. What meadows with desirous clouds seem bright
In floral coats and silks bedight

٧٨. كَعبَةُ القَصدِ وَنجح الأربِ
دَوحَةُ المَعروفِ ذات الثّمرِ

79. What the beauty's daughter, in whom beauty thrives
And perfect grace in souls is seen alive

٧٩. مُهجَةُ اللّطفِ وَروحُ الأَدبِ
لُطفُهُ فاقَ نَسيمَ السّحرِ
