1. Toward you, O Mahmoud, I direct my purpose
And he who is praiseworthy is my intended

2. You are indeed praiseworthy in intelligence and discernment
And reason and excellence unmatched in the land

3. And knowledge, recognition, reverence and devotion
And piety and asceticism in the world unlimited

4. And self and traits and then deeds and demeanor
And hearing and obeying the best of what is lauded

5. And forbearance and gentleness in speech and manner
And resolve and judgment graced by guidance provided

6. I praised you in summary when I was unable
Before you in detail, O best of those extolled

7. And you in summary in time are unmatched
And your like in this age cannot be found

8. And my praise of the praiseworthy is itself praise
And whoever is not praiseworthy is not extolled
