1. The dove in the doum-palm tree sings melodiously
While my blaming beloved chides me in love

2. How can I bear her blame, O my anguish!
Blame is a fire burning me inside

3. I was infatuated before love and passion
So I became her lover before my creation

4. I loved her before her image was created
When Adam was between water and clay

5. She is none but the gardens of eternity where she was born
Can't you see she appeared from among its maidens

6. I lost my sanity from the light of her rising
And for me there was light in her that guided me

7. She sways gently like a supple branch
To teach love to those pining

8. Indeed those crazed were but one, Qays
And in love I am all the crazed

9. I cast off the shackle of my shyness when she appeared
Until she called me boasting, “You are my crazed one”

10. I sold the life of my soul for a paltry price
So I was not cheated in my sale

11. She shunned me for no reason
What do you think of the abandonment of a wretch?

12. Perhaps she saw the slaughter of the anguished by it
Where shunning slaughters without a knife

13. You possessed the mind of a youth in whom you toyed
And placed his heart in the hellfires of passion

14. In her was a brother to fervor in infatuation
When she addressed him with the prefix Ka and Nun

15. O pearl of beauty, what is this distance? For you have
Tormented the heart of a wretched enthralled one

16. You are a doum-palm of kindness, if you show sympathy
You sway scattering gentleness and tenderness

17. Indeed you imprisoned the son of Fatḥullah, O my sorrow
In the prison of abandonment, humiliating the captive

18. Battle came in defense of the faith
Do you not see victory followed by praise glorifying

19. Muhammad, how it follows the Ya Seen chapter
From the essence of praise, his name was derived

20. And the auspicious name placed for the auspicious one
One whose times are beautiful in pleasantness

21. Springtime even in the month of January
Forbearance in him has an unfolded carpet

22. And grace adorns with excellent adornment
And awe has a veneration discreetly

23. And dignity has a beauty including ornamentation
He is the most glorious, exalted in nobility

24. Shibl, quintessence of noblemen and excellent youth
One whose glory is woven of honor and nobility

25. Indeed the fabric of sublimity is the best placement
He who trampled the head of misery in might

26. While the noble one did not trample the weak
The Holy City prides in what it contains of sanctuaries

27. As it manifested a pride to Damanhur
A sea of knowledge whose shores cannot be known

28. A ship in which bounty appears best laden
Solver of problems, releaser of dilemmas

29. Elucidator of ambiguities in excellent clarification
In eras an intermediary, in times a gem

30. On her worth, the appraisal of pricing has failed
The virtuous scholar, the elite author, our master

31. Perfecter of merit in excellent regulations
The exceptional singular one in intelligence and insight

32. In him knowledge gained excellent consolidation
The mystic immersed in piety

33. Purifier of Sufis till purity adorned him
So convey the discourse of piety from its proper source

34. You would convey the discourse of piety from the best trusted one
I praised him while unable to fulfill his rightful praise

35. Like the obligatory duty that falls short of obligation
No innovation in falling short of praising his merits

36. For the sea, its waves elude enumeration
O you who are an ocean in munificence and knowledge

37. None like him has ever been in India or China
To you I gifted a maiden, daughter of a destitute

38. So accept the cheeks of the lofty, a gift of a wretch
She came drugged and victory covers her

39. From others besides you, so take her unrefused
A pearl is beautiful hidden and concealed

40. Its beauty is not diminished if unveiled
Submit and be gentle, you will not see in life any worries

41. With a contented mind, in gentleness and tenderness
The branch of willow did not sway from dancing when it saw
