1. By the light of the moon I saw a gazelle
Whose cheek outshone the rays that on it fell.
١. بِضَوْءِ البَدْرِ قدْ أبْصَرْتُ ظَبْياً
أضاءَ بنورِ وَجْنَتِهِ عَلَيْهِ
2. I cried, "The moon's conjoined with a likeness fair!"
For like must to its like be drawn, that's plain to tell.
٢. فقُلتُ البَدرُ مُقتَرِنٌ ببَدْرٍ
وشِبهُ الشّيءِ مُنجَذِبٌ إلَيْهِ
