1. Awake all night 'tween the full moon and flowers,
And watch the garden 'tween stream and blossoms.

2. See how the moon gifts its beams,
Bestowing radiant light on the garden that captures vision.

3. It is a crystal orb whose maidens are clad in it,
Not veiling an alluring charm.

4. The breeze plays with the blooms,
And light dances like the swaying bough at dawn.

5. Their sleepy starry eyes conceal and reveal
The houris within them.

6. The moon and then a platter where a cluster
Of pearls lie near the grapes.

7. The stream descends from a height to a slope,
Laughing from above and below.

8. It undulates, sweet as pure wine,
Over a bed of musk's perfume and plenty.

9. The moon cloaks it in its light,
Capturing mind after thought and gaze.

10. The moon's image imprinted there,
Its light unbroken from it to the moon.

11. I found two moons, one in heaven and this moon
In the stream, with their light joined.

12. As their light was connected, I could not tell,
O perplexity of thought, which light belonged to whom!

13. The light surged where the water surged,
Like flowers swaying with the wind in the trees.

14. It comes and goes quickly in its rippling,
While the water flows on, smooth and untroubled.

15. I saw it as a mirror with the dawn's sun
Reflected in a most beautiful image.

16. The mirror then moved, and the light
Came and went, dazzling sight.

17. The garden's blooms are varied,
Each emitting a sweet fragrance.

18. All fresh, unmatched, glorious and bright,
Blossoms, rubies, pearls,

19. Pure wine, canes, proud display.
Look how the rose's petals when open

20. Emit at night the radiance of stars.
Like horizon stars blushing red in eve's glow,

21. And houris' cheeks blushing from bashfulness.
No bud cracks open unless pressed

22. By lips of a lover come to steal a kiss.
Jasmine is like the eyes of wild cows, charming,

23. Except it has a twist to that charm.
The slender narcissus in its emerald necklace struts,

24. Wandering aimlessly, expressing utmost pride.
It describes crystal lanterns that illuminate gloom,

25. Their light within like the moon's light.
How fragrant is the glorious orange blossom,

26. Surpassing all flowers on earth in fragrance!
As if cups of crystal containing feathers

27. Of peacocks, like fresh young canes.
Carnations, how pretty are their features

28. Among flowers, excelling in elegance!
Of a radiant red or white blushing,

29. Its splendid sight is pleasing to soul and gaze.
Its white in the beauty of its rising

30. Is like the morning star were it to appear at dawn.
Its redness is like incense perfuming the garden,

31. Not with wood aloes nor embers.
When violet flaunts its blueness,

32. It brings radiance to dawn when it appears.
Periwinkle sways in intoxicated leaves

33. Drunk like one drinking wine at morning's breeze.
Strands the Merciful fashioned from gold

34. And the God embroidered over green silk.
Glorious is our Master and Creator!

35. How beautiful is the garden in its flowers and blooms.
No paradise to match among gardens,

36. As no equivalent for the sun amid settlements and cities.
Sun of knowledge, imam of the age, our master,

37. Full moon of perfection, star of glory and pride.
Ocean of knowledge none can grasp its shores,

38. Paragon of nobility, lofty in worth and danger.
Ocean of dew, he who saw a drop from his palm,

39. Would go scorning the ocean and rain.
Scholar of solid learning, teacher guiding us,

40. The knowledgeable, devout, righteous and sublime.
Ascetic and mystic, steadfast at dawn’s first light,

41. Righteous, loyal advisor against our dangerous ignorance.
When we hear his reminders and preaching morals,

42. We are robed in the dress of reverence.
He enjoins right and forbids wrong out of sincerity,

43. With gentle speech that impacts even stones.
You see him, sincerity his way, not intending

44. Anything but reform from us and council.
He never feared a critic’s blame for God’s sake,

45. And he who fears his Lord cares not for mortals.
His nature is refined, his conduct immaculate,

46. His life exemplary, among the best of lives.
Star of Islamic law, rather full moon of spiritual path,

47. Rather sun of spiritual truth and mystical knowledge.
Leader of rhetoric and master of research, authority in jurisprudence

48. And interpretation, proficient in prophetic traditions.
Reviver of schools through his teaching when he taught,

49. The faith through him became best supported.
Upholder of the brilliant model, following it closely,

50. Never were brilliant models left without likes of him.
Keep his company and you will gain his gems,

51. For keeping his company brings only benefit, no harm.
The perceptive, learned, exceptional and refined one,

52. Elegant Zayn al-Din wherever he wished would appear.
Al Alma'i the literary, elevated in manners,

53. Al Lawdha'i the eloquent, sound in thought.
The excellent, well-versed, who structured his rhetoric

54. From every innovative meaning and ingenious conceit.
Of all wise sayings made so consummate they became

55. Sweeter to hearing than flute and lute strings.
Of all rare talents turned indispensable,

56. As perfect links in a necklace of the finest pearls.
His eloquence surpasses, his rhetoric transcends,

57. In excellent arrangement, unpatterned and patterned.
Lord of wondrous merits who refined his features,

58. Treasure of resplendent virtues, from open and hidden.
Unique in her time among humanity and mortals,

59. Unmatched among people and humankind.
The stars of excellence in this age, were they to rise,

60. Would take the place of sun and moon.
Lord of sublime heights that towered above gladness

61. And were robed in glory and pride.
Brother of dignity, reverence cleaves to him,

62. Becoming best adorned with awe.
Quintessence of the age in the form of perfection,

63. True in configuration, in thought and sight.
My shaykh al-Masiri, whose merits proliferated,

64. In excellent repute, best praise propagated.
Fruit of perfections, the pride of Alexandria,

65. Muhammad of splendid, lofty, perilous merits.
Open, smiling face, brother of mirth while residing and travelling,

66. To describe his fair attributes, I cannot, save prolonging describing the famous.
In beauty and excellence, in eye and trace.

67. A singing gazelle, a lovely doe,
Beautiful, shining like sun and moon.

68. Daughter of a thinker whose thinking betrayed him,
For he cannot distinguish poetry from verse.

69. She came to you in service, grasping your hands,
Boasting of you, adorned with pride.

70. She went on at length, though fell short praising her master -
My embarrassment! He is the essence of length and brevity.

71. Great where in praising you she was robed
Were it not for him, she would be in the depths of smallness.

72. How many a lowly creature contained loftiness in another,
Yet in himself was of contemptible stock!

73. I gifted her to you, ocean of knowledge, as a gem,
And I was as one gifting the ocean its pearls.

74. She praises you with all forms of praise,
As gardens extol rain with their flowers.

75. In your sweet praise she is perfumed,
Scenting us with pure musk's fragrance.

76. She hopes for acceptance, and in it mends her spirit,
Excusing my shortcomings with regretful apology.

77. Do not break, brother of kindness, her spirit.
It is the way of your likes to mend the broken.

78. Submit in contentment and honor with nobility,
Below it loftiness of every companion.

79. No lightning flashed, no morning breeze blew,
Nor birds trilled in thickets at morn,

80. But that one crazed with love in its fervor
Kept night watch 'tween the moon and flowers.
