1. The charm of looks has baneful power on me;

١. لِلسحرِ تَأثيرٌ أَضَرَّ ذَوي الحِجا
مُذْ ذُقتُه لا أستطيعُ نُهوضا
2. Had not the magic of the eyes effectual been,
The eyelids of love had not been sick with pain.
٢. لَو لَم يَكُن سِحرُ اللِّحاظِ مؤثّراً
ما كان جفنُ الحِبِّ مِنهُ مَريضا
